I'll post pics in the morning but anyone else experiencing the summer Pirellis that come with the PP peeling? Right where the tread fades into the sidewall three tires have multiple small areas peeling. The tires have 1500 miles on them. You can easily see from the current wear on the tire that I've not even made road contact in that area of the tire.

Did this damage happen recently or could have it been there prior to purchase and you've only noticed it recently now that you've had more time to look at the car in detail?

If recent you might think about where it has been driven that could have "cut" the tire(s).

@DickR,

I didn't notice this before I purchased the car. I've taken it to D.C. and back last week and do not recall any time I was concerned about the road surface. It's really odd because three out of the four tires have this issue. The right side being the worst. Another odd thing is the yellow imprinted line on the rear tires is faded more on the right side.

Maybe the alignment needs to be adjusted? My local dealer can't align it yet because their state of the art alignment device is not ready for the 2015 Mustang ;).

Take it to the dealership that should be under the new tire warranty for workmanship. That looks like temperature cracking like some people reported on the PP tires at the beginning of the 2015 model year.

If you drive on the PP tires under 40-50 degrees the rubber will crack like that. They're summer only tires.

The damage isn't alignment and doesn't look like cold weather damage. It sure looks like something cut the rubber. Maybe before you bought the car or maybe when/if it was parked somewhere. Did you have to drive even a very short distance on gravel or take it through a car wash with "tracks" to guide the car? Park it somewhere where a vandal with a knife could have had access? Just trying to trigger your memory for possibilities.

Blk2015GT - Have you personally seen tires with that kind of damage from being driven in 40 - 50 degree weather? Mine were driven in much colder weather due to January delivery and had no damage.

Yes there was a thread or 2 a few months ago during winter months where people were seeing cracks by the treads on the sidewall driving the PP in the very cold weather. The summer tires get brittle and crack like that.

I would 75% that is what it is. It doesn't look as bad as some people got it, but it could very well be cracking.

See what your dealership says. They may be covered under the workmanship warranty on the tires. It doesn't look curbed or anything like that. Definitely not cut the rips are way to jagged.

was the car driven in the cold? looks like a cold stress crack from being driven in very cold weather, I know someone up above mentioned that was occurring it was happening with the Corvette and the Michelin Sport Cup tires as well.

No cold weather here in Raleigh NC. I picked up the car on 30 May 2015. I believe the build date is 24 Mar. It had 50 miles on it when I bought it.

Leaning towards alignment being the issue. Will let you know.

How would alignment cause sidewall damage?

Im not 100% certain as I have not seen it but it does not hurt to have the alignment checked never the less.

I feel as it is a bad tire to be honest, but one step at a time.

I suspect alignment only because it is happening to both right side tires. The left front has minimal peeling and the left rear has none. Another thing... The vehicle came with 38ish PSI in the tires. Could it be pressure related?

Not pressure or alignment. Physical damage or defect. Extremely low pressure would have triggered TPMS to warn you. 38 psi cold would only make the ride slightly harsher. 38 psi hot is typical. If you want an expert opinion stop by the Discount Tire store on Millbrook near Glenwood or any other Raleigh Discount Tire location. Those guys are pros and will give you a straight answer in my opinion. I use the Millbrook store.
