This is my first domestic, first v8, and first brand new car, so I don't really know what to expect.

After an easy cruise, rarely going above 3k rpm, and averaging about 45-55 mph. The car was parked for about 10 minutes before I popped the hood and that hood was hot as hell.

I'll shoot it with a probe tomorrow and find out what the temperature gets to but I know it was uncomfortable holding it up with my hand.

Car isn't overheating, cylinder temp on the display is 205 when I looked.

This seem kosher to you guys?

If your car isn't overheating, the temps are normal. The motor gets to a couple hundred degrees, I imagine that's way past uncomfortable to put your hand near. No worries.

Install a lower T stat. I have a 170 in my car and cyl head temps are 190-195.

Thanks for the responses. It wasn't so much the motor being hot that concerned me as it was the hood. That level of toasty seemed dangerous.

It's so if you get hungry during a race even or road trip you can just throw some eggs and bacon on the hood ontop of some aluminum foil for easy cleanup. That's why the hood is so flat.

I've never noticed my hood being extremely hot, but I can definitely feel the heat coming from underneath the car when my hand is out the window at stoplights.

Whenever I get home after a drive, I lift my hood and use the hood support on the center latch, it more evenly distributes the weight.

let the heat out so it doesn't bake the engine bay on an ongoing daily basis. been doing this for decades on almost all my cars.
