So I got my hood struts today and I fixed em up nice and tight as per the instructions.

After a few testings on the struts (slowly) to ensure everything is OK, everything was good and smooth for the first 3 tries. Then the strut from the passenger side popped out from the joint on the car body when I was putting the hood down.

The strut is now bent, the metal below the joint is bent and of course there was paint damage.

I am not here to complain about steedas product, they have a very good reputation but I want to know what caused this mishap. Is there something I missed or overlooked?

Below are the pics

Sorry to see/hear what happened. I've had mine installed for a couple months now with no issue. Since the connection is like a ball joint, I wonder if it was never fully seated. Did you check this connection was secure when you initially installed?

Your most streamlined way of resolving a situation like this is by contacting the manufacturer directly. The only way that damage can happen is with someone trying to close the hood with the passenger side strut disconnected at the fender - it also explains why the strut is bent. From the pics, it looks like the strut was never snapped into place completely upon install.

Your response is on point.

Okay, I just got back from visiting a mustang specialist here in Dubai. He inspected the struts and believes that there was nothing wrong in the installation.

He showed me how the one bent strut is easily further bendable versus the other strut installed on the driver side, concluding that the bent strut was made of very cheap quality (wtf lol), and therefore it snapped right out of the ball joint when it got bent and caused mayhem. He too was surprised and amused as to why one strut is stronger than the other

So guess there was nothing wrong with my installation after all.

It was just a poor quality strut supplied to me.:headbonk:

I am not angry on the defective strut, but furious over the damage the product has caused my car.

Ah well, guess I am gonna live with one strong strut after all.

Also, David if you can look into my post and the pictures, you can see that the hole on the fender is damaged i.e. pulled forward BECAUSE it was forced forward due to the fact that the strut was still secured to the ball joint even when the strut started bending. Then came a point when the poor quality strut could not take it anymore due to the extreme tension caused by the bending and snapped right out of the joint causing irreparable damage to my car.

Had it been just disconnected at the fender (as per your statement) the strut would have bent and not caused any damage to the ball joint or the fender hole.

Let me know if I am wrong

Kind of disappointing to see the first company response is a finger shake and shame on you instead of a little compassion for the guy....but we are talking about the company that ran rampant with the 300 pound rumor....continuing to avoid said products.

Sorry for the damage bud hopefully this gets resolved.

No offense buddy but that looks like a very sloppy install. Contact David directly I'm sure he'll set you up. Good luck.

It wasn't sloppy at all trust me. I made sure everything was nice and tight. I have installed air intakes and struts on my old cars too so I know by some experience.

The only reason I had this thread opened was to find out if anything apart from the Instructions provided was required.

The issue was with the strut bending, there was no displacement or anything loose, If it were loose it would have popped out with less force. But this strut took its time and bended all the way to the extent that it damaged the fender nut bolt area (see pics, it deformed the metal) and then popped forward as a result of an increased tension.

Also, I am aware of steedas awesome reputation over the forum and I respect that too, but what I am trying to indicate is that this was a faulty strut, which damaged my car.

The installation is so easy and straight forward, I have installed the same struts on my friends car.

Guys, come on, he went and saw an actual "mustang specialist". He knows what he's doing.

I know you think you're being witty but he lives in Dubai. Yes believe it or not they have specialized people in different cars especially cars from the USA.

Is this something out of the ordinary on these struts? I am interested in installing struts and if this company isn't ideal than what is a good company for struts?

Looks to me like it was a bad strut that locked up and would not compress. When you tried to close the hood the gas spring had no where to go and ended up bending and eventually popping off the bracket and scratching the paint. :frusty: Looks like Steeda is using cheap gas springs in their kit. I have the system from Redline Tuning on my Stang and it works perfectly. I am not saying that you will never get a defective part from any company, but I chose Redline because they have a 4 year warranty!

Steeda has so far good quality products and I still have ordered their CAI + IRS Bushings.

However, I was unlucky I got a defective hood strut and maybe wont order struts from them in the future.
