It doesn't work that way. Well, at least here in SC. Adjusters come out, inspect and write Visible Damage Quote. If it's totaled, they call you up and start negotiating. Prepare your anus. Might need to lawyer up.
If it's repairable, they will cut a check right there made out to you and who ever holds the title due to a loan or lease. Bodyshop holds the check and orders parts and gets to work on it. If they find more damage, they have to come back out and inspect before approving. This can sometimes take up to a week for them to get back out there. ( I once had a two week delay because of this. Shop had to have the guy come out two different times on my '95 GT when it was rear ended. Once when they discovered they had to remove the light bar and when they found rolled quarter lips in the wheel well. )
OP, this is useful info, because they will be putting you up in a rental car. So keep in mind, not only the price of the car repair they have to pay, but deminished value and rental car fees. Ask the adjuster if he has figured in the rental car fees and the time he's going to eat up coming back for the hidden damage they find? Also, figure out the actual deminished value now. Co-worker is still fighting an insurance company that only offered him $2K and when he traded it in, it was actually something like $4K or $6K.
Pushing him over the edge to total it might be easier than you think.
What is needed to find diminished value?

Give your insurance company a call, and visit your dealership. I think they use some carfax formula. Use three sources if you can. Google it? I've never had to go through all of this myself.

what they mean by diminished value is:

Example:
Your car's value before the accident--- say $28,000
Your car's value after the accident--- say $24,000

you can go after their insurance for the $4,000 in lost value to your car.

most states usually have a mileage and/or vehicle age limitations.

but being a 2015 and less than 3,000 miles on it... you shouldn't have any problems.

give a local lawyer a call for some advice on your situation.

Here is an example for a 2015 Fusion (KBB doesn't list the Mustang yet) New vs New/Repaired with clean title

Well Scott I just got off the phone with my lawyer. She said make sure you tell them diminished value. I also will tell them rental and times they gotta come back. The good thing is a good friend of mine is doing the work.

It could be totaled , my brother ran a red light :( on his EB .Long story he hit a truck ( car only had 300 miles ).The damage did not look to bad but since the air bags in the door , steering wheel and by the pedals were deployed . Ford credit accepted the claim to totaled the car . They even gave my brother back his down payments . This a really bad pick but it's the only one I have. best of luck !

This car has the frame section of the unibody designed for easy cut and weld in replacement. Unless the firewall was pushed back it is an easy fix especially at a quality shop. Don't sweat it. The engine will have to be pulled if the frame/unibody section needs replacing and suspension parts are easy to replace.

I just hope the parts are all available for the fix. Ford can take forever for new model parts availability.

This is so true. We had a 2011 gt that got hit in sept of 2010. 4 months later we still didn't have all the parts.
