Let me preface this a bit. It would be for the back and both side and quarter windows. I have never had my windows tinted before and I fear going 35% would be too dark for me especially at night. I know a lot of you go darker but I'm more for cutting out some of the light and eliminating UV from fading the interior.

So has anyone gone as light as 50% all around. Again I'm not asking for IF I should do it, but IF anyone has gone that light. I have seen 35% on cars plenty of times to know that for my personal preference it would be too dark for me. Again, I'm not asking for preference but actual experience with 50% tint. Anyone out there with 50% tint and pics would be great. Thanks in advance. :)

It's always seemed to me that looking out of the tint is lighter than looking in. For me, 50% wouldn't be worth it. I'd suggest going to a local shop, and have them place some samples on the glass so you could see exactly what it's going to look like.

Again, I will try to reiterate. I'm not looking for an opinion if it is worth it to you personally. I would like to know if anyone has done it, what it looks like and their impressions of such.

I have seen and been in cars with 35% tint. It is too dark for me personally. I have taken 35% tint (had some purchased for scale modeling) and laid it over the windows before and have not liked the darkness. I'm more in this for blocking out UV and saving the interior from bleaching over the long haul.

Again I know a lot of you are going to say go with 35% but that isn't what I'm asking. I figure there might not be anyone out there with 50% on their Mustang but maybe they have had on another vehicle at some time. Again, thanks for the replies and I'm not soliciting opinions on what I should do but if anyone HAS done it.

I'd suggest going to a local shop, and have them place some samples on the glass so you could see exactly what it's going to look like.
I think that may be good advice, thank you. :)

I'm probably going to go 35 on the rear, 50 on the sides.

Thank you. Please post up some pics if you do, I'd love to see it. :)

I'll throw this out there for some opinions for those who have done tint and are more experienced in this arena…

What tints/brands are good for scratch resistance? Any especially good for UVA and UVB protection? Which are good for long periods of time? I very well may have this Mustang for 10 years. Here I'd love to hear some thoughts and ideas on these questions, thanks. :)

Hey free,

I have not ran 50% on my personal cars (except on the windshield) as I like it dark, but that's not what you're asking!

If you are looking for a slight tint without effecting your sight, I say go for it!

I put 50% on my sister's 15' Fusion and you can definitely tell the tint is there from the outside in specific lighting, but from the inside you can't tell!

I'll try to grab some pictures for you

Thanks, much appreciated. If possible a shot from the inside with the window partially rolled down to reveal the difference between 50% tint and "no" tint or just ambient light, if you could manage it. Has she shared her thoughts on the 50% tint in her Fusion? Again thanks. :)

I'll definitely try for you! She is currently on vacation but I shot her a text and she should grab them for me as soon as she gets back!

In regards to the tint, she does love it but she has said "I wish I listened and went darker" a few times because I recommended she went with 35%. If she were to do it again, she would go slightly darker.

Hope this helps and I'll reach back out when she gets back!

I think anything above 20% will be very easily on visibility, if you have proper eye vision. Best thing you should do is find people with different tint levels and see what's best for you.

IMO 50% is a waste of money. I have 15% on the front and 5% on the rear and back. If I could do it all over again, 15% all around would have been perfect.

I'm not going to go beyond legal limit of 35% in IL either. ;) I agree with you visibility should be very good, that is key for me. :)

I think some of our members from our sunny states, CA, FL, TX or AZ need to remember that some of us have winter and not a lot of light at those times and many days in a row of cloudy, dreary low light situations. If I lived there I'd probably be with you. Again, it is my money to waste, I'm not asking your opinion on that. I'd like to converse with anyone who has DONE it.

How about it you northern tier state members? Anyone else with 50%? Would love to see some pics if you do. :)

For only partial light blockage, don't forget to also consider the front windshield not having anything on it. For max UV protection you could even go as light as 90% and most states would allow 90% on the front windshield for 360 degree coverage.

Thanks. I'd be leaving the front alone for visibility purposes. I usually use a sun shade in our parking lot at work to block our the light on the dash, front seats on sunny days.

Any good brands at filtering out the UV?

I know you asked for 50% but at least you have something to go off of. I have my X5 tinted with 3M ColorStable CS35 on my front windows, which is equivalent to 39% visible light transmission. Hope this helps!
