My transmission broke!

....Wow I cant believe it will take that long to get your car back! Just read through that thread! how have you managed to be so patient? Its only been a day and I already miss my car. Can only imagine how you feel.

Yea - More or less I am going Insane. The fact Ford is OK with it all is what really gets me. Keep me updated - I'm sure Ford Service on here will put you in contact with your regional csm... They won't do much, they're like gatekeepers who give you no help or info... Typical text book answers.

We could start a support group.

I figured it was apprx 12 weeks to build my car, I'm about to put money on the repair taking longer.

Ford really needs to quit the BS and pull a unit, But it'll never happen.

Not true, if the car is out of service for 30 cumulative days it also qualifies for Lemon Law.

Monday marks 21.. The ETA of a transmission being delivered to the dealership was middle of June. Now we're looking @ beginning of July...

So yea - 30 days is Fairly close. I'd have a heart attack if they had it back in my hands sooner.

From the short time I had it yes but only in neutral. I only was in the car for about 5 minutes. Dropped it off at the nearest dealer, left it there as soon as it started making that noise.

So at Idle (car stopped) it would make that sound in neutral and go away with the clutch depressed. If it was in gear with the clutch depressed it would make that noise

While moving, Neutral and clutch position didn't matter. It would make that sound progressively depending on how fast i was going. was not affected by engine RPM (at least I don't think) While in gear the sound was much louder didn't matter what position the clutch was in.

It would make that awful ticking sound every time I would try to even think about changing gears as demonstrated in the video. I didn't even have to put all the way into gear just to the point where it was starting to going out of neutral. right where you start to feel the syncro.

This is all that I can remember and it may not be 100% accurate since I only had it for a few minutes.

Hopefully its maybe just a clutch and then i wont have to wait 2 months for a new Transmission but it almost sounds like combination between the two. maybe the clutch isn't releasing completely? But otherwise it felt completely normal shifting gears and such. just had the horrid audible sound.... It almost sounds like somebody zipped tied my driveline (funny practical joke I used to play on people)

Now that you mention it almost does sound like a clutch issues... PLEASE BE A CLUTCH! if it is I take back all the awful things i said about the MT-82. Honestly I've loved this transmission up until this point.... solid gears love the way it shifted by far the best M/T Ive ever had.. but this is the first one I've had issues with.

My vote still goes with the pressure plate/fly wheel area based in what I heard in the video. If it was some where inside the bell where the gears reside, you wouldn't hear a rubbing sound... you would hear metal against metal imho.

My vote still goes with the pressure plate/fly wheel area based in what I heard in the video. If it was some where inside the bell where the gears reside, you wouldn't hear a rubbing sound... you would hear metal against metal imho.

Friend of mine just had his clutch replaced on his brand new GT. less than 2000miles... it had a bad chatter to it.

I called the service department today. They had one of there transmission guys take it out to see what its doing. Said he didn't even make it out of the parking lot, turned around and right back into the shop. Said he got what he needed to send the "symptoms" to ford. (its really loud) not anything subtle about it I laughed when he said he didn't have to go far to hear the sound. Said they are going to diagnose it tomorrow (Tuesday). I mainly called in to ask about the loaner they gave me because I was worried I would end up having to pay for it. The dealer was actually pretty cool and said even if ford doesn't cover the rental which he is 90% sure they will but in the mean time he (dealer) will cover it until they find out. So I don't have to worry. That's all the info I have for today.

PM your VIN, full name, phone number, and dealer info. I'll escalate this on my end as well, to make sure all steps are taken. I don't need the full details on the cause, as it's already being diagnosed.

Just an update so far. I was called this morning by the dealer. Said they drained the transmission fluid and it was full of metal shavings! Said they were already in the process of pulling the transmission out and splitting the case. Would know more of exactly which part broke by the end of the day once they have it out and apart. I didn't call them back tonight too see I didn't want to be a nuisance. I'm sure they will call me tomorrow. So definitely the transmission. Something came loose in there. So depending on what broke they will know more of how long this is going to take. So far I have been impressed on how fast they have been so far. Hopefully I don't run into the same availability issues DiEzel have been experiencing!

On a side note how are your guy's clutches supposed to feel? All the other M/T cars Ive owned start to engage right when you start to bring it off the floor mine seems to not engage until a little more than halfway out and feels slightly mushy is that normal? didn't' feel "crispy" and linear. Even my slipper clutch on my KTM is excellent. This one is more... either "On or off" not sure i have the right word to describe it. But I think you get what i mean. Just always chocked that up to a newer high performance sports car. I've had STI's Evo's most recently a Focus ST and all those seemed fine in comparison but are a completely different kind of cars so I didn't bother trying to compare them. The reason I bring it up is they are going to have access to it anyways and was wondering if this is normal on these cars? If it is normal while its on their lift I could buy an aftermarket or maybe even a ford racing clutch to have them throw in... Don't have to make this whole experience a bad thing right? Anyone have any thoughts? or a good clutch to get my desired "feel"?

I have to say so far it really sucks when your car breaks but everyone gets a bad part now and again but the speed and customer service i have received so far has been second to none. I couldn't be happier with how Ive been treated and how professional they have been. :ford: so far....

That sounds about how I'd explain the clutch on my GT also. It's not bad once you get use to it. Some guys remove the clutch pedal "assist spring" and claim it makes the pedal feel more predicable. I haven't tried it since I don't really have an issue with it now that I'm getting use to the way the pedal feels.

That sucks about your transmission going out. Let us know if the dealer comes up with a root cause once they tear into it.
