Purchasing Next Week - Negotiation Assistance

Hello,

I'm about to embark on the purchase of a 2015 Ford Mustang GT Premium 400A! I know the dealer needs to make a dollar or two, but I've never bought a new car before.

There is a car in stock at another dealer, appx 200mi away that they said they can trade for.

Details:
2015 GT Coupe Premium 400A
19' Dark stainless alum wheel +$998
Guard metallic
Ebony Leather seats

MSRP on sticker: $38,120

There is a $500 rebate for this month. should $37,620 be the best price I can get? Is there an X-plan option and would it be cheaper?

Final Deal Update:

Wanted to just provide closure to this deal. Here are the highlights.

- I emailed with the dealers in the area (appx. 60 mile radius)

- 1 came back with a quote of $34,999, others wanted me to come in and discuss, etc.

- Had the option to order or go with the car listed above. The car listed above was from another dealer's inventory.

- Essentially no other cars with the features/options that I wanted.

- I went back to the local dealer, and looked to negotiate a better/fair price. He came back, claiming he was essentially making a min profit at $37.1K, and showed me the attached sheet.

- Based on all the info. from this board and research, this seemed untrue.

- I was prepared to walk away.

- Drove away with a new Mustang for $35,400.

A good starting point would be invoice price,then take the $500 rebate off that.
Invoice should be about $2500 below sticker.
And if you can sell your old mustang yourself,they will probably give you black book price which is auction price.

Agree, invoice plus rebate is a good starting point. Don't be afraid to shop around. Out of the 5 dealers I talked to, 3 had the same price, one was $200 more and the other was $500 less. It does seem that you can get a better price if you are willing to order and wait. Waiting for your car to come really sucks though. You will become addicted to cotus and best friends with the wonderful ford service people that have to respond to all of us on this forum. The best way I can explain it is, like waiting to turn 16 all over again.:frusty: Good luck and congrats!:clap2:

currently at $37K - $500(rebate) = $36,500. This includes a $75 document fee.

Invoice looks to be $35,100 for this model, plus the $995 for the 19" Dark Stainless Aluminum, would be at $36K invoice.

They won't take x-plan? That should be about $2500 off the sticker price for a 38k car. Then rebates on top of that. Plus you get the capped document fee as well.

That should put your price around 35,000-35,300.

X-Plan price is $35,932

If you can get X-plan through either work or MCA that would be the easier way to get a cheaper price.
Definitely dealer shop! The local large volume Ford dealer made my skin crawl and after going all around I ended up at a smaller (although owned by a larger "dealer network") dealership across the NY line that was just better to deal with. I know it's not for everyone, but sometimes saving $200 but having to deal with scum is just not worth it.

Submit a TrueCar.com request and see what they toss you. You'll have dealers coming to YOU with their best price... no haggling. Compare that with what the others have said about invoice and x-plan.

I went through X-Plan pricing because of where I work. MSRP as optioned was $43,750. I got it for $40,500. They also waived the dealer fees. This deal blew away every other offer I received. Most didn't want to discount beyond MSRP less rebate. This was in February.

Sure - I'm in South Florida (Broward County). I checked out Pines Ford, Sawgrass Ford, Gus Machado Ford and Autonation Ford. I ended up getting the car in Daytona (Gary Yeomans Ford). They provided the best service and found the car I wanted. I was too impatient to order one and needed a new car right away. Most dealers are unwilling to trade Mustangs with other dealers. MSRP was $43,785 and I purchased for $40,500. I got the:

Spare wheel/tire

Thanks. I'm looking for a different set of options but I just checked out Pines Ford last week and they were pretty helpful and kind of cut through the B/S and gave me a solid quote; which I'm using as a starting point for negotiations with other dealers as well. I'll check out the Gary Yeoman one b/c I'm not opposed to buying from someone else in the state - even contacted Brandon Ford in Tampa.

yep...i bought mine and made my deal. asked if they needed my x plan info and they showed me where i beat x plan buy a considerable amount.

I was able to get almost 700 under XPlan. The deals are out there.
