Lol sup h-t Monica.Don't worry OP... the gawking won't last for long.
I stopped trying to wave hello first because it's ignored. In a "creeping by in heavy traffic" situation, they are looking at my wheels or something and don't look up. :shrug:The worst is other S550 owners.
This. Going on a month and a half and the only nod i got was a dude in a 2014 GT giving me the shaka. Other than that no one else here has taken notice.I haven't had anyone really even take notice yet.
Hawaii is like that because it's the one place where you could be just about anywhere and the natural beauty of your surroundings will outshine just about anything. At the airport in maui I'll never forget walking out into the parking lot and being overcome by the intense smell of tropical flora. I've never smelled anything other than a mix of diesel shuttle fuel and jet fuel at any airport parking lot in my life. I bet I won't have many people stopping to care if I take mine down the big sur coast line this summer either.This. I wouldn't say it's a "coldness". It's more like indifference, like to them theirs is " just a car" so when they see another one it's just another car. I'm sure it's indicative of those particular drivers rather than the S550 community as a whole.I can't explain the coldness between S550'ers.
Wow, have not seen that up north. Have had a couple of of conversations with s550 owners in lots and places and they are really cool about talking.I have to say that my experience has largely been the opposite. I have gotten a few thumbs up, and a couple people wanting to "play" a little, but that's it. My biggest surprise has been other Mustang owners. Any time I see a Mustang I will try (safely) to get next to them just to give them a wave or a nod to kinda say "hey Mustang person, I'm a Mustang person too". 99% of the time there is no reaction at all. The worst is other S550 owners. I always try extra hard to get next to them. Of the 8 or so that I've actually been next to, 1 has even acknowledged my existence. I am always on the lookout and can usually spot a Mustang a mile away. But, nobody else ever seems to be as excited as I am to spot another Mustang. I've seen something posted on here about the difference between Mustang owners vs Mustang Enthusiasts. I guess that's the difference.
We also don't fangirl over celebrities. Ive worked at a hotel where we would have big name celebrities come in (we had Steven Tyler, LL Cool J, Rihanna, etc) and no one would bat an eye, not the tourists, and not even the locals. Hawaii is too disconnected from the mainland that people here tend not to care about that sort of stuff. Same goes for cars. People here don't really seem to care about nice cars.Hawaii is like that because it's the one place where you could be just about anywhere and the natural beauty of your surroundings will outshine just about anything. Everywhere else is just not many auto enthusiasts and/or tons of them around for a year already. Nobody cared when I drove one around Dearborn, they are everywhere. California seems to not have many on the road yet, and it's pretty much the epicenter of American car culture, land of auto enthusiasts. That all adds up to rediculous attention, to the point of recognition from newer late model ferraris.
Forsure, anytime I saw something like an srt8 or Vette or something in Oahu all I could think was "what's the point!?"We also don't fangirl over celebrities. There are plenty down here; the weather is a bit more agreeable than in NorCal, so maybe that is why we're seeing more.California seems to not have many on the road yet, and it's pretty much the epicenter of American car culture, land of auto enthusiasts. All I would want on the island is a highly capable 4x4 that I didn't care about thrashing, and it could be slow as ever and I could care less. Especially on the big island.
I wonder...if I had unloaded my Wrangler Rubi there, would I have gotten more $ for it? ;)Jeep rentals are very popular here. A lot of military people that get stationed here get jeeps.
