They look cool. I ran MSD ones on my 2010 and never had any problems but I don't think they did anything performance wise.

The fact that the stock graph and the graph with the new coils look identical and just shifted upwards in power is a huge red flag. Plus adding more voltage from coil packs would not gain you any horsepower. Any tuner would probably feel the exact same. The stock coils have no need to be changed. Just my .02

Thanks. Staying away. Next for me is exhaust, Long tubes x pipe and exhaust. After that besides a super charger what else is there to do? Already have cold air and tune

Now your on the right path. Plus once you have a supercharger with long tubes you'll have all the power you'll ever need lol

Spending your first dollars in de-stressing an engine, is the best money spent towards power.

DO NOT RUN GRANATELLI ANYTHING...

A reason why would go a long way. If you told me to jump off a bridge with no reason, I would think you're crazy. If you showed me that a train was coming, then I would understand. Why not explain why instead of some caps lock don't do it with no backup whatsoever.

The stock coil packs on these cars seem to last the longest and offer enough spark. I have seen cars making over 1000hp on stock coils.

Granatelli parts do not have the best reputation there are numerous accounts on several forums of poor fitment, poorly constructed parts, and bad customer service. However I can't actually say if any of it is true since I haven't actually used any of their parts.

Anyone install coil packs on there 15 GT? Do you have to get a tune to go along with it? What are your thoughts??

http://www.americanmuscle.com/2015-mustang-ignition-parts.html
The simple answer is yes. Get the coils. I did multiple times and always had great results. I had 2012 Red Vert 5.0 with an off the self Vortech kit at 12 psi that ran 10.52 religiously. I installed Granatelli Coyote coils at the advice of Shame Stymis (spelling) and ran consistant 10.45's. No other changes and no plug gap changes either

Short story long below

To all wondering, please allow me to say this:

Granatelli, the man, and his company have been totally stand up for me and my friends. I have read some of the crap that has been said about Granatelli dating back to the Stone Age. 50% of it comes from guys that say “owe I heard this or ya my friend said that”.

Go to Granatelli Motor Sports and see all the great stuff they are doing. They seem innovative and not pigeon holed to just Mustangs. But enough of that.

I’m 40 something and I spent several years watching Indy car races and NASCAR as well. One name that always came up and usually was associated with creating new things, pushing the envelope and winning was Granatelli. I mean they gave Mario his only win at THE 500, in a Ford I might add. These guys created the Paxton Blown 289 that found its way into the fabled GT350 race cars that won Trans Am, USAC and SCCA not national wide but in some cases worldwide.

My first car an 88 Mustang GT and I was lucky enough to purchase a used Paxton blower for it from a guy that took it away from his kid for speeding too many times. HIS LOSS MY GAIN…

After installing the kit I needed a few parts that were missing from the pile of nuts and bolts the old man gave me. I called Paxton and spoke to J.R. Granatelli. He was helpful and knowledgeable. He showed me how to make a real 375 rwhp and never oversold me anything (for those not old enough an 88 Mustang made 205 crank HP and 169 at the rear wheels.

Fast forward to 1999: My ’88 is long gone and now I have a 1998 Cobra with Vortech R-trim. The thing was totally raced out. In fact, it was now my race car and I was “trying” to compete at Fun Ford and the new NMRA series. My car was reaching max power at 24psi from the R-trim and I started getting misfire. When I asked for help I got answers from the coral just like the ones here…

The stock coil packs on these cars seem to last the longest and offer enough spark. I have seen cars making over 1000hp on stock coils.
Then they were EDIS Modules and UPR told me to add a Digital 7 – it did not help

we go XYZ on the stockers....don't waste your $$
Not knocking you guys but WTF. You guys sound like John Mohovitz in 1999. He is the one that talked me into a vortech instead of a turbo because I realize thats all he knew about.

Him and SHM. He told me words to the effect,,,”I run a vortech and I am the fastest so why would you want to run a turbo” I actually believed it at the time. But when I started having spark blowout I got nothing but bad advice from guys that thought well I go 8.something so that must be good – right?

NO IT’S NOT GOOD – or should we all say "not good enough".

I was told to keep tightening up my spark plug gap until it stopped blowing out the spark…more bad advice. When I got to .020 gap I knew I was in trouble. So why do I say all this? Simple NOT UPR or John Mohovitz or any of the other Mod Motor Experts of 1999 could help me because they only knew what they knew and figured if they did not do it themselves then it could not work. I chased this demon for the full reason ultimately dropping back on boost and reducing HP until it did not happen anymore. (misfire or so I thought)

That was until the last race of the season and J.R. Granatelli happened to be walking by. He saw my car and walked over. At the time I think he was driving for George Graco and helping Joe DeSIlva with his Pro 5.0 car as well.

J.R. was walking by and said I looked familiar. We did not recognize each other. After talking for 5 minutes we remember each other from when I bought my first Paxton for my ’88. I made a joke about having a Vortech on my car and he said he just sold Paxton so it was all good. During the convo I told him about what I was doing and said I had spark blow out so I had to drop the boost. He asked about plug gap and when I told him .020 he laughed and said THAT’S NOT BLOW OUT. IT’S A WEAK IGNITION. He told me to drop the stock EDIS module and go over to his super bricks. If you all recall in 99 the cars had 2 coils each firing 4 cylinders. He told me he made 1300hp with his turbo’d 4v motor and I called BS on the spot as did Sean Hyland, John Mahovitz and the father and son UPR guys. Granatelli stuck to his guns and said nope 1305 to be exact and the car will be out in a month. He explained the only way to get there with factory electronics was his super bricks.

HE was dead on. He had the shop overnight a set of super bricks from California and I installed them the next day. My fastest pass in my life (at the time) was 9.72 and the first pass with super bricks was 9.74 when everyone else at the track was like .6ths off. I knew I was on to something here. He said now open the gap back to .040 and change the blower pulley down 3 teeth which is like ¼ (.250” smaller) that’s huge in blower speak when your chasing a problem and you shift at 8,000. Everyone said no way.
All I can say is 9.54 at 155 at 2700lbs – do the math. I got all my power back and made exactly what Sean Highland said the motor should make at 23psi. Bottom line even in 99 Granatelli had the ignition sh-t figured out.
In 2000 he should up in FL like he said and laydown a lifting 7.54 at 165 on his first pass in his turbo’d mod motor and if you guys remember dropped a 1/10 at every race until he hit 6.98 at 202. So yes he was the first mod motor in the 7’s and 6’s and first to 200. MMR will confirm it as Mark Lutton worked for Granatelli then. He did it with Super Bricks.

Over the last 14 years I have had many more mustangs come and go and even though I stopped racing (wife and kids (twins) killed that dream) I still have kept up with blown Mustangs from Novi-2000 cars to bigger better Vortechs to Hellion turbo’s. And every time I ran Granatelli ignition stuff and every time I picked up power and reliability

So yes you can go 8’s with stock coyote coils but you can still make power – MOPRE POWER with better coils and Granatelli and MSD offer them. I had my share of MSD product as well but when it comes to coils – Granatelli has my vote.
