There are a lot of crappy HUDs out there. I have no affiliation with this company but it looks like they've done it right: It plugs into your diagnostic port for power, engine RPM, throttle/brake position, etc. and it bluetooths to your iOS/Android device for GPS navigation. It projects information as if it were floating in front of the car, so you don't have to refocus your eyes OR look down to see e.g. your speed.

To put things in perspective cost-wise: the preorder price is less than half the price of the optional nav system for our cars. And I'd much rather look at directions projected directly in front of my face than look down at our touchscreen, which (frankly) is mounted too low to be looking at while driving.

I don't plan on using it to read or reply to text messages on the road...but if you do that, I think it's a hell of a lot safer than holding a phone in front of you.

(full disclosure: if you order from the above link, I get $30 off the one I just ordered for referring you)

I ordered mine last year. They should be shipped around September time frame.

This is really nice... I'd want to order but hesitant to see how it actually looks!

Yeah, I plan on getting this. Just want to make sure it gets to the consumers and see some reviews first.
It better be good as by the time i get it it would be over a year since I initially placed the order.

I never understood why the MFT would not display the text messages on the screen. Yes its distracting but its MORE distracting to fumble for a phone and take your eyes off the road to glance at said phone rather than glance at center console like you do when flipping through stations or other stuff.

Looks nice, but I wish it were in a smaller package. I think it would bug me having that thing on top of my dash like that. If it weren't right in my line of site (off to the side) it would be better, but then the image would be over to the side as well. I guess I'd have to see it (actually sitting behind the wheel) to really have an opinion about it.

There are no good reasons to read text messages while driving, on MFT or on your phone. If someone needs to communicate with you urgently (e.g. an emergency) they can call you.

Based on photos taken from the driver's perspective, it looks like the device is visually about as high as the hood, viewed in a typical car - in our cars, the hood appears quite high because of how long it is! So I don't think the device itself will interfere with visibility, but I'll let you know how it goes when I actually get it.

I think as of their last update they said probably Q3 2015. When I get it I'll be sure to post up a Mustang-specific review for you guys!
