doesnt it call 911 in the event of an accident?
does it do more than that?
Doesn't matter.

It seems that since Jeep and Ruby are fully comfortable with having this thing turned on that everybody else is expected to fall in lock-step with their thinking and want it as well.

The same can be said about most of the other new features that cars never used to have - just because some people like them (what it really boils down to), we're all supposed to like them too.

Everyone is entitled to their privacy, it is just interesting to see people's reactions to my comment.

I agree, what I do is no one else's business unless it directly effects someone else directly in the case of the 911 assist. I cannot think of a good reason to turn it off, as if it is turned on it no longer bothers you to activate it.

If you're in an accident what reason would you not want 911 called?

Very good point. Didn't think of that. Do you think in track mode this gets turned off?

I highly doubt it would turn off in any driving mode for liability reasons.

If he would be worried about BB he had to throw away his cellphone, cancel XBOX live, cancel the land line at home and destroy his smart TV...... He only asked to disable 911.

I don't think I've ever got into a car to go somewhere with that particular "what-if" in mind. Not even as only a remote possibility; I fully expect to get to where I'm going and back home again. Maybe that means I have an inherently greater tolerance for risk - after all, driving is always going to entail an element of risk (no matter how much effort is expended in an attempt to eliminate it).

Hell, I don't even think about stuff like that when I am out on the track. The mental energy is better spent keeping me out of trouble than worrying about what might happen if I don't, and I suppose that's the way I feel about all my driving.

Please don't speak for me. I insinuated nothing of the kind.

If there's a legitimate privacy concern, I want to know about it.

Whether you intended it to indicate your comfort with it or not, that's the way it comes through in your first response.

I don't believe either of us said everyone should do it. We are just asking questions and giving our opinion. We are in titled to this just as much as someone is to their privacy.

I am comfortable with it, as far as I understand it to be nothing more than an extension of the cell phone already in the car. I never said a thing about how you or anyone else should feel about it, and I really don't feel like getting into a diatribe about civil liberties and the Constitution.

If there's a reason why one should not just allow it, I'd really like to know.

He asked why not just allow it. He didn't say you should allow it because he does. That's a legitimate question that sounds like someone mistook

Let's just call it a misunderstanding and move on. I am just looking to understand the system and if there's a privacy concern, I want to hear about it.

Of course, no BB until you get into a crash and call 911 gov. police (BB), gov. police come (BB), your city/county fire (BB) comes, and ambulance (BB) comes. So I take it the BB fearmongers will be putting out their own fires and driving themselves injured to their private doctor on their dime and not using 911, our police, our fire, or our public hospitals then.

I mean really? I get privacy concerns but this makes no logical sense. Oh I see its not BB when your hurt/injured/property being damages and need the government or its resources.

Better throw away your cell phone, tablet and other electronics with GPS and e911 then too.

I always find BB debates wildly hypocritical unless you choose live completely off the grid in the woods. Then I agree, no one has the right to bother you. If you enjoy the benefits of a government and government services then you compromise on certain liberties to enjoy those services. You pay property taxes? Your name and address are public. You register to vote? Your number reported is public.

Back on track, should your infant/toddler suffer or die from injury and/or fire because you get in an accident and unconscious to call 911 and have a BB phobia? 911 assist in cars has one and only one intended purpose. These laws aren't all about you and trying to spy on you.
