From what I've heard, they're bringing 6 or so Boats filled with mustangs, adding up to around about 13000 mustangs. They wouldn't just send 1500 or so over in 3 months, thats how you lose paying customers!
Even easier way to lose customers is if you are unable to provide vehicle customers want in a reasonable waiting period - this talk of 9 month wait is simply craziness. Everyone buying a German built RHD car with special options may wait for 2-3 months, at most. If Ford is not flexible enough to slot a few RHD cars within their regular domestic production then that is sad.

A dealer I spoke to also said that Ford are doing this a different way to any other car release and will deliver all the orders they get by the end of March, in that first Nov-Feb delivery period. I don't know what to believe.
I call BS on that. Ford clearly stated that Mustang wholesale starts in Q4 2015, same as your regular sale. This initial order approach till the 31st March is simply called "launch customers "

So you think we'll be getting them earlier than the Nov 15 - Feb 16 period that is being estimated by the dealers?

Nope. It costs the dealers money to store those stangs, so they wouldn't send mustangs until they are a month or so away from being officially released to the public!

I presume wholesale and regular sales deliveries will be from March 2016.

My original post was unclear. If you order by end of March you get a car Nov 15 - Feb 16 is what I was told. I didn't mean they'd arrive end of March.

hey it's a monday...

I'm not sure where this over 10,000 units business came from. Ford had indicated around 1200 pre orders before pricing was announced - now you could be optimistic and round that up to 2000 now, which would most likely be quite optimistic.

Ford state in their DCB "Using the 'fair share' process initial customer orders will be raised against production allocation (by month) so each order has an ETA. For dealers who have customers, the customer order bank can expect to receive at east 1 unit per arrival month until all orders are fulfilled."

It further states "The company expects that all eligible orders will be fulfilled between November 2015 and February 2016."

Now I'm not sure about you, but if they are talking about at least one per month it would seem quite likely the 1500 referred to is the pre order build quantity. If there were 1500 per month that would equate to 7-8 units per dealer across their ~200 dealers nationwide.

They have dealt with this sort of stuff before - the 400 Focus STs in the initial allocation back in 2012, the initial allocation of 100 Fiesta STs in 2013 (was later increased due to customer demand).

Wait times of ~9 months would not be unheard of for vehicles with a serious demand. I personally know of someone who waited 11 months for a Golf R, another waited 9 months for an Audi S3, I'm aware of several Ranger Wildtrak orders going beyond 12 months from time of order to delivery when they first came out - so while it may seem like a way for them to lose customers, it certainly is not uncommon in the automotive industry.

I wonder if the 600 that don't have deposits down are for dealers/demos.

WOW... 13000 mustangs for Australia in 2015 ? OO . Maybe they will make 100 000 units RHD for the next badge since it's so popular.

Here in Auckland I was in the Dealers 2 weeks ago paying my 2nd deposit(1st paid Sept 14) and giving them my specs(Magnetic manual V8)
They said then they understood Ford Oz had received 13000 deposits so this could make sense
The expectation here is that our 1st 200 will arrive approx. Nov and these include the dealer demonstator stock
Thereafter there will be a shipment to NZ each month
Can someone tell me if they know when rhd construction actually will commence (supposedly June/July) at Flat Rock and more importantly, what is the monthly production capacity of the plant
The yanks will be stating to thaw out now from another hard winter in the middle and northern states and be getting interested in placing orders too

There has not been any confirmation about when the RHD build will actually start - but plenty of speculation on the forum. Some say August once the new 2016MY production starts.

Flat Rock factory - using 2 shifts per day produces around 500 - 600 cars per day. But this also includes the Fusion which also is produced there.

They had ~13,000 expressions of interest. At the time they released pricing Ford Oz only had approximately 1200 pre orders, this obviously would've increased now.

New Zealand will get 50 cars a month from November.

I was told just this week by the largest dealer they require a 10% deposit now if I want a Mustang convertible at the end of this year or March next year if I wait to place an order at the end of August after I test drive a Mustang in Hawaii.

Here's some info I got from my dealer today that I didn't know - if you don't have an order in, you won't be able to walk in off the street and buy one, and if someone who has an order in pulls out - the vehicle that was allocated for that person goes back to Ford in Melbourne for reallocation to unfilled orders. So The dealers won't have stock sitting on the lots waiting for someone to walk in and buy one.

So if you haven't ordered one, good luck finding one. My dealer has 17 ordered.

What is considered an "unfilled order"? Order placed post 31st March?
