Love the 3.73. Third gear works great in slow freeway traffic for a large spread of speeds.

How much would that cost and is it a fairly straightforward mod?

It is not a straightforward mod.

You should look around and see what shops change gears regularly.
I made the mistake a few years back and brought my '08 to a shop that didn't do them on a regular basis, and the result was a howling sound in the back. I eventually found a shop that specializes in Jeeps and they fixed it.

Install should run you about 250 - 350, and gears are around 180. Stick with FRPP gears.

This. Even though I got FRPP 4.10 gears on my '07 and followed all the low-rpm driving rules for the first X miles, I still developed gear whine on decel. It wasn't *too* bad, but I regretted going with the cheapest install.

It does take an experienced axle tech. It's about a 5hr job. A good shop charges @ 100 pr/hr Gears are 179.99. The FRPP gears are the same as factory gears.

Because these new GT's have an IRS and will be more labor intensive to remove, should I expect more along the lines of 500 for the install?

For gears!!???!! Wow.

Irs shouldn't be any harder. Maybe easier in some ways even.
I called a couple of very well regarded shops that specialize in off road vehicles and regear all the time. Both of them mentioned that removing the 3rd member is a pita. Not difficult just labor intensive. Once removed he said it would be set on a bench and would be pretty basic work.

I guess yanking the pumpkin is easier than doing it under the car.

Seems 3.55 is the gear that everyone thinks is perfect for the S550.

I had 3.73 in my 2010 GT and never had an issue with the amount of shifting, as has already been said city driving sucks so that's kind of a given. I'm very happy that my 2015 PP GT came with 3.73's.

I think 3.73 is too much gear for the GT with the stock intake manifold. In my 2013, I ordered 3.73s because I planned to do the Boss IM which extended my range to 8000RPM. Now, 3.73s are perfect for it.

If I was keeping the stock IM, I would've liked 3.31 the best I think. The MT82 has extremely low gearing, so it doesn't need a steep rear gear.

Yeah everything changed with the new IRS.
Even though I wasn't into setting up my own gears way back when, that center pumpkin of the Ford 9 inch was a piece of cake to pull and take in for any changes or upgrades.
Once I found the right gear I needed I dumped the PITA traction lock and installed a Detroit locker.
Never messed with it again.
