I had heard about Laguna and mentioned it above. I guess there will be two events then?

I am hoping the new ones are there AND we do see a limited run, anniversary edition 2015 GT350 and GT350R. Get all the ADM crap out of the way.

Yea, just kind of thinking out loud and wondering if they'll show here when for sure they're showing there and wondering if I'm going to make that drive. It would of course be worth it to see a new R as I've only seen the regular GT350 at the LA Auto Show. It would be doubly worth it to be able to hear it and tripley worth it to see it in motion if only for a parade lap and quadrupley worth it to see a hot lap.

Sorry but I totally read the poster as stating they are bringing a 1965 GT350R and original program members (who are aging by the day). LA SAAC is big on Original Shelbys.

I stress...the Los Angeles chapter of SAAC is having a meet to cleebrate 50 yrs...I HIGHLY doubt you will see the 2016 GT350 there...unless some of the local members have "pull" (and some do). realistically the first you may see of the new GT350R in California may be in April at the Fords Forever show at Knotts.

Z28 in 66? I don't think there was even a Camaro in 66, and the Z28 didn't come around in the first year of the Camaro in 67, did it?

It wasn't until the improvements in '68-'69 did it become competitive. I wouldn't really say it was an improvement really either. The class allowed a 5.0 liter engine and Chevy was the first to patch a 283 and a 327 together.

Ford used the 289 until 1968... when the Boss 302 began R&D.

Which would indicate that the "R" would start the VIN numbers at 0001 RIGHT? Then to make this even more confusing the 50th Anniversary LE VIN numbers started at 0001 and went as high as 1964...so my long winded question is; Do we have 3 cars were the VIN numbers start at 0001? A) the first regular Mustang to come off the line, 2) the 50th Anniversary Mustang, 3) the GT350R :headbonk::shrug:

The R is going to be a 16 not a 15 but yeah....the vins are tweaked now so Ford (and others-Chevy has done the same at times with Vettes) and come up with a 0001 for a special product indicated by other codes/numbers/letters within the vin string. Thus you can get a 0001 for Mustang in 2015 and 001 for the 15 Limited Edition if Ford wants. In 2016 they can probably come up with a way to have 001 for Mustang, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R if they want by altering the begining of the number string with a unique initial code.

Now, this is all based upon my understanding of GM practices and hearing the stories about the 15 Mustang your referring as to 0001 for both a standard stang and the 50th LE (which I haven't).

It is the same game playing as the Limited Edition being 1 of 1964. when we know they made 1965 Limited Editions...they just "pull" the vert out and claim it as a model of its own... I do not mid the vert- I just do not like the game playing of 1964 LEs when there are really 1965.

My LEs last 11 vin digits are: P8RF5501260. Do normal 2015 Mustangs have the "P8R" or another letter in that spot (8th form the right end of the vin for cars under 9999) and not the R. If they replace that "f" with something else they can create a different vin that still ends in 001 for a different Mustang. I found a decoder that lists P8X with several letters depending upon GT, Coupe, Eco boost, Convertible etc but no P8R listed...5 P*Xs but no R...could be unique to the LE and a way of creating multiple 0001s. R designates your 50th, P8 J will be for gt350 and perhaps ford will add another letter for the R model. :shrug: on that last

The original Shelby American crew that developed the iconic prototype "R" Model GT350 have gotten together to build a one-of-a-kind Mustang the way they would have 50 years ago if they had the opportunity. The Original Venice Crew (OVC) are back together, Peter Brock, Ted Sutton and Jim Marietta. However, this Mustang is being developed with the IRS rear end along with some additional design improvements, in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the first competition win of the GT350 at Green Valley Raceway by Ken Miles.

So I'm guessing Valentines Day..."The Shelby GT350-R's first race was at Green Valley Raceway in Texas on Valentine's Day of 1965. As luck would have it, test driver Ken Miles finished the B-Production race in first place."
