Back when the 2005 came out those decals were very popular. Several guys on the Mustang Source forum (that was the biggest forum for the new Mustang back then) came up with the idea for the exact reason stated above. It's a GT with 300 hp. In 2005 300 hp was a lot for a Mustang. Plus the body style was inspired by the '65 Mustang so it was only natural to dress it up like a '65 Shelby GT350 since there wasn't a modern Shelby available in '05.
