I have a built 5.0, forged rod piston bottom end with the rings gapped to 0.025 for boost, 3.672 bore.
3.672 x 0.007 =0.0257 using Manley ring gap chart
mods:
ess superchargered 80mm pulley
Fore innovation dual pumps
1300id injectors
Holley low ram mani with stock throttle body
Running full E85

issue with the car is it starts but runs lean, 10.3-10.8 does a little pops and bangs then stalls and doesn’t want to start again until after 10-15 minutes, I have no codes on the car. I did a smoke test for vacuum leaks everything was good and sealed, made sure my timing was good 4 times, brand new vvts, new phasers, new HPFP, new ngk 6510 spark plugs gapped to 0.024.
I did a compression test all cylinders came out to 60 psi, I added oil and all went to 90 psi, is this something to worry about on a brand new build motor with no run time on it?
once I added the oil the car ran and stayed on for at least 5 minutes with AFRs at 8.3 until I saw I didn’t have my fuel system activated, di regulator side was at 0 psi and port injection regulator was at 60psi, I turned on my fuel system both regulators at 60 psi and tried starting it again it wouldn’t start again and when it did start after a few minutes it ran lean again and stalled even when I added oil into the cylinders again. I’ve been chasing this issue for months spent hundreds and thousands of dollars and I can’t seem to figure out the issue

I would say the first thing would be to get a data-log of it running and watch what it does as it starts popping and stalls. Have you sent any logs to your tuner?

im tuned by shoemarker and I have been sending him logs and he’s been sending me tunes to try and test and all the fuel trims, maf sensor data looked good, he’s not sure what could be the problem either

60 or 80 psi compression means something is seriously wrong. Maybe it’s ring seal, more likely cam timing way off, and even more likely a bad compression gauge. That said, you should be able to log cam timing desired and actual and know if that’s the problem, but surely a good tuner would know this.

well the ring haven’t even gotten a chance to set it’s a brand new motor and rings are gapped for boost, 3x more open than stock rings I think I am gonna have some compression leak from the rings. Im tuned by shoemarker and he hasn’t said anything about timing how can I check the desired timing myself?

update I found that unplugging all my port injectors lets the run and doesn’t shut it off, but AFRs are at 8.3-8.7. I tried plugging in all the port injectors again and it didn’t change anything car still ran and and AFRs stayed the same, anyone what could cause this? Brand new id1300 injectors aswell

Sorry man, but my experience says that <100 psi compression when it should be over 200 isn’t caused by ring seating or gap. It’s something bigger. Could just be a bad gauge though.

I’m not sure what scan tools will read these specific parameters but hptuners vcmscanner and Pcmtec logger will both read this data. I’m sure ford ids will too but I’ve never used it. What device are you loading tunes with?

This sounds like you’re stabbing in the dark. Do you know what gdi blend is being commanded at idle? Usually it’s 0% but not always. Also, ford incorporates FMEM ā€œfailure modes and effects managementā€ into the logic. If it senses a problem, it will implement protections and workarounds on the fly. In other words, if you unplug the pfi injectors it might sense that and switch it to 100% gdi mode. So unless you know what’s going on exactly, it’s nearly impossible to diagnose this based on how it acts when you unplug half the injectors.

is this like a tuning issue or?
