I don't know about your location, but in the Midwest, a new certified technician will start closer to $60k vs $160k. Sure, I seasoned veteran might make that wage, but to insinuate all of these jobs start at $160k is really just gaslighting.

60k is about right for a new tech, it didn’t say a new tech makes 160k. That’s about the norm here to. Master tech here is a legit 100-110k at just about any franchise dealer regardless of manufacturer. That’s a decent tech not trying to break speed records. The good ones, efficient and focused, are 130ish to 150k. Have several friends that are master techs. The ford guys do better simply because of how many trucks there are. Tranny guys are for sure more specialized and do very well if they’re good and at a decent dealership. The irony here is a decent body tech or paint tech for me twenty years ago was high 90’s. The part that article had no clue on is the access to side work soo many dealerships techs can get. Almost every tech I know makes easily a third of there regular salary on the side(cash) if they want it. The dealerships here pretty much all have pretty decent benny packages. The particular Ford dealership I use has a full time PA on staff with a fully set up clinic just for employees and there familys. Starting out is not easy, but that’s no different in any trade really.
