So, when I bought my Mustang back in May, it came with a set of these tires on it.

I had never heard of them, it saw that they were pretty cheap, as far as price goes. They’re rough riding, do not grip well, etc.

Went by Discount Tire today to preside some new tires. With their warranties, the Continentals I was looking at were about $1300, and the Michelins were higher than that. I have 245/45R19s on it now. Want to go a bit wider. Either 255 or 265. Anyone know of a solid, good riding tire that’s not insanely expensive like the Michelins?

I love my Firehawk Indy 500 tires. Great multi use tire (not all season) that won't break the bank and they last.
I’ve always been intrigued by these- do they last at least something like 20k miles?

I have over 40k on my front pair. Would have lot's of life left but my alignment was off a bit and the inside edges are getting pretty bad. Already have a couple new ones ready to install.

What convinced me to try these out was, good reviews, and a recommendation from a track instructor at Sonoma raceway. They run the Indy 500 tires on their track school cars and he said "They stick good and last forever" He was absolutely correct.

The price has nearly doubled since I put them on in 2019.

I had a set of Atturo AZ 850’s
and they worked great for me. I tried to get a replacement set and my local Discount Tire said they were discontinued and no longer available. I think they just wanted me to buy one of their usually brands. I’d buy another set of AZ 850’s in a heartbeat. Great mileage, rode great, no road noise, and had great traction ( for my uses anyway). Never a problem with wet roads. Go for them! Small price, great service. I think I paid just of $100 each, plus installation, etc. ordered online, dellivered in two day, but that was a couple of years ago. My were stock size, 255/40/19.

Just paid $1200 for my Indy 500’s back in April. Can’t personally speak for longetivity yet, lucky if they have 1000mi on them yet. But they feel great and grab pretty good; happy with my choice 👍🏻

I like Discount Tire, but I feel like they (at least in the past couple of years) always steer you towards particular tires. Always very few options in the store, but tons of tires on the web.

Wow 40k, impressive for a summer tire. How are they in the rain? And i don't mean after 40k which i'd assume they're slicks by now, but in general?

The general comment about you getting what you pay for is SO spot on.
If you value handling performance rain or shine, ride quality and longevity, head straight for the Michelins.
They will cost you less in the long run while giving awesome handling.
Anything less is a compromise.
I would recommend saving up for them. I have learned over many decades that cheap tends to cost more, and frustrate you along the way.
IMHO.
Cheers

I mean yeah, of course the Michelins are better but i may not need them to be that much better for a daily driver. In fact sometimes the PS4S have too much grip for me and i'd like to be able to break them loose a bit easier, at least until i make the "Mustangs Crashing Into Crowds 2025 Highlight Reel" i guess...

Also if getting 40k out of indy 500 is commonplace, there's no way they would cost me more in the long run than a PS4S which are basically done after 20k.

I’m running Indy 500s too. Can’t comment on longevity yet, but even with the ESS supercharger, shockingly they’ve got more than enough straight line and cornering grip for me.

compared them to similar Continentals? Just curious. I’m a Michelin fan, but had a set of Continentals on another car that were really good. Wasn’t a sports car, though.

Also, which model Michelins are you referring to?

just put a set of atturos on the car. 285 20 fronts and 305 20 rears. ran me $800 installed all in. I haven't had them on the road yet as I'm doing a ton of steeda stuff right now but for the price I figured it would be worth a gamble.

fwiw I compared to nitto and firestone and discount tire guy(sold me several rim/tires over the years) told me to either step up to conti's or do the atturos. said he would not recommend the firestones as they were similar to atturos for more money.

ymmv.
