PSA.......This past week I had my 2018 Mustang GT in for service, one of the items was for harsh shifting. I'd been complaining for a while to the dealer but this time they applied TSB 24-2101. This TSB has made a significant change in the harsh shifting from P>D, 2>3, 3>4. Sport Mode is also substantially better. For anyone living with the "quirks" in the ride quality, you may want to check out this update.

I'm curious. Did they just flash your PCM and do the relearn drive cycle? I'm looking through the doc, and in some cases they'll remove the transmission to replace the clutch cylinder. It also says the dealer has the option to replace the transmission completely! This is quite extensive...

Thanks for the tip! I'm looking at getting the Ford Performance tune, and I wonder how this compares. Mine's silky smooth in normal mode, but rough in Sport/Sport +, and I just assumed that's the way it was supposed to be, so I'd put it in manual if I wanted to make sure it didn't do a hard shift mid-corner or something.

Not sure on the Learning Cycle. I've had that done before and had no/minimal effect. Notes provided in the write up state:

CUSTOMER STATES HARSH SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR NEUTRAL
DRIVE, CK AND ADVISE
VERIFIED HARSH SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. CHECKED OASIS FOUND
TSB 24-2101. PERFORMED TSB-TRANS STRATEGY. VEHICLE NOW
SHIFTS AS DESIGNED. VERIFIED REPAIR. TRANS STRATEGY

Yes, I had smoothness in "D" pretty much always. SPORT on trans was rough. Took it in three times (for other stuff) and had them check. Harshness was amplified when I put the car/Engine into Sport or Sport+ mode. I told the dealer it turns my mustang into and actual "Bronco" because of bucking. After TSB 24-2101, it seems 90-95% improvement....

Ok yeah, "TRANS STRATEGY" would indicate that they did the "Transmission Solenoid Strategy" steps in the TSB, which is a reflash of the PCM and learning cycle.

I will see about getting mine in for this as well. I've experienced the harsh shifting and the bucking while manually shifting from time to time.

How much did the dealer charge for the TSB 24-2101 portion of the service?

So they just re-flashed the original firmware? I'm kind of amazed that there's never been (as far as I know) a firmware update for the older cars to improve the behavior of the A10. I can't imagine someone at Ford drove the A10 (esp. in Sport mode) and said, "Yeah, this is good enough. Ship it."

My car sat for almost 3 months at the dealer. No loaner provide. I had to fight, but finally Ford did replace the transmission with a new one. Earlier they said they were gonna just rebuild mine with the same known faulty parts. This NEW one from Ford at least has one of the updated parts, the CDF drum but not the updated trashcan. So I am concerned about how long this new transmission will last.
Check out the educational videos by Southern Illinois University/SIU and others about the 10R80/10L80 transmission and all the multiple problems. In my mind, it is hard to believe that software is the true fix. I could see where it could possibly help. There are seemingly a number of people in here that swear by a trans. and engine tunes by the likes of: Wengerd, Lund, Palm Beach, Dino, Livernois etc.
have you guys experienced that these aftermarket tunes extend the life of the transmission by 100 miles or 200,000 miles or what?
Also my car only had 9,000 miles on it! It started acting up at about 2k miles.
Also make sure your dealer documents, your problems, fully, and correctly most of the dealers I took my car did not! It will bite you in the *ss later if you don’t get full correct documentation!
Got my car back on Feb. 10 2025. I dropped it off at this last dealer Nov. 19 2024.
Good driving to all!
