Another car I would love to own is the Alpina B3 S (e46 based). True boutique car.

From wikipedia:
The engine is a hand-built 3.4-litre E5/1 inline-6 unit, also shared with the Alpina Roadster S.[2] The engine is an enlarged version of the S52B32 engine[3] first installed in the North American M3 (E36).[4] The engine generated a maximum power output of 309 PS (227 kW; 305 hp) at 6,300 rpm and 362 N⋅m (267 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,800 rpm. The engine has a red-line of 7,300 rpm.[5] Modifications to the engine include an Alpina specific cylinder head, crankshaft and high strength MAHLE pistons.

Not till it is actually in owners' hands and has proven itself to be what they claim it is and proves to be reliable. Time will tell. I cannot afford one but can't afford a 66 SC 427 either but it has proven track record.

What’s the reliability concern? The engine is basically the Predator from the GT500 and that has proven to be very reliable. The car itself is more or less the GT3 car, which has been in use by Ford/Multimatic for some time now. I’m just curious more than anything where the reliability may be an issue

Just the fact that none of them are in owners' hands yet and until then anything can cause issues. I will never be able to afford one much less my dream car. Just my humble opinion from 50 years as a master tech fixing factory screw ups.

I am not saying the concepts and parts are not proven themselves already but there are no actual GTDs in the hands of the fortunate yet.

A car doesn’t have to be reliable nor meet all their performance parameters to be a persons favorite. You just have to love it for what it is or more importantly what you want it to be. I think that the GTD fits that bill today.
