So I recently picked up a Mustang GT optioned with the Recaro bucket seats, and I have to say they were quite possibly equipped with the most useless seat belt guides imaginable. I think "hey, where's your seatbelt??" might be the #1 question I get from passengers. I saw plenty of solutions that attach to your typical headrest, but nothing unique to our Recaros. So after some brainstorming, I designed a seat belt hook that retrofits to the preexisting factory guide.

It's super easy to install and works as intended, so I thought I'd share with the rest of the class. I actually saw Ford redesigned their guide on the Dark Horse, so I know I can't be the only person with some complaints 🤣

Cheers 🍻

Cool to see there's some interest 🤟

I needed to make a couple more tweaks first, but I actually decided to put these up on an Etsy page I recently made: Etsy Page

Feel free to check them out and whatever other thing I decide to make for my S550. I would definitely love to adjust the design and get these machined from billet aluminum... but maybe that's a bit overkill haha?

Funny you should ask. Several people over the last couple months have actually reached out about a version for the Dark Horse, and I even had someone send me out their DH seatbelt guide so I could use it to develop a hook.

I should have a final product posted sometime next week.

So huge shoutout to Joe S. 🍻

@TCornishIII Im curious if there’s a way to make the s550 guide look more integrated. What about a thin piece that would slip behind the chair side and then loop over the top, in a “U” to meet the existing “U” this would result in less material, no screw, and a cleaner look IMO.

I see what you're getting at and something I quickly thought about for the DH. You're totally right about the excess material, but thin piece and structural rigidity typically don't go hand-in-hand with each other. Plus, trying to shoehorn the thin plate around the existing mounting bracket didn't seem the most straightforward.

I think it could be done if someone took the time to do it. But I opted to go this route instead as the solution was more direct, albeit a little bulkier. Maybe I'll slim it down for future revisions.

Or if someone wants to give me a 3D scanner or if Ford wants to give me their CAD models, I can redesign it to actually work like it should've from the factory 9yrs ago 😂. I love that the new DH version is also terrible lol

Cool, what process for printing the part? SLS? Material? Nylon-like, ABS-like? if you modeled it, depending on your modeling skill level, you could do some surfacing that would mimic the part Ford supplied more accurately (you did a fantastic job by-the-way). You could get close enough form-wise. But that might complicate the machining if done in aluminum. Heck, blow your bank account and tool it up in a Kirksite tool and mold 'em!
Just for example... https://armstrongrm.com/pages/rapidarticle.html

Just FDM ABS, so nothing crazy. Though if I were to hunt for a material, I'd probably look for something slightly more ductile (PC-ABS?). An injection molded part would be sweet, but I doubt I'd ever get back the $20,000 in tooling costs lol

Any chance you can make the ones for the DH come in different colors? Like carbon fiber or gloss black
