Appreciate the feedback and you sending me those pictures. They definitely better reflect the quality and finish I've improved on over the years. Can't believe it's almost been 3!
Cheers 🍻
That was my first thought, but I found the process to be fairly tedious imo. It would be super nice if I had the original Ford CAD models or a good 3D scanner, but I have neither, so I opted to go the retrofit route.
So if anyone has access to those files and is willing to share, let me know haha
I actually added stainless steel plates with various logos, which I think look pretty cool. I keep tossing around the idea of making a fully-aluminum, CNC'd version, but that's probably a bit much 😆
I didn't realize 'wooly jumper' syndrome was a thing haha.
But the original pics are super early on, with probably less than a week of actual installation time. So any fraying you see was there way before the retrofit was added. You can also see fraying at the bottom of the belt, and that...
That's awesome. I hope you enjoy them! My original hooks are still going strong over a year later.
Linked below are some instructions I made:

Let me know if you have any other questions.
Cheers 🍻
I appreciate the compliments. You nailed it on the head. The main body is 3D printed from ABS while the metal plate is laser cut from stainless steel. I also think it gives it a finished look
I feel you on the eyesore, but imo that was the case for most cup holders. And I wasn't trying to "reinvent the cupholder" when there are cheap options available online.
It's a metal plate, so you can just attach any magnetic cup holder you want. Or even just drill into the plastic spacer and...
Might need to change the thread title to “how do you shift?” lol because my forearm is firmly planted over the cup holders.
That’s mainly why I’ve been eyeing up this cup holder arm rest for some time but never got because I didn’t want to completely delete them.
Love that pic 🤣. Yeah you can make it work but man it can get old quick. I carry around a tall water bottle all the time and just end up throwing it in the passenger seat.
The mounting plate is custom. Might’ve gone over the top with the shape and powder coating, but it looks the part and...
I've had my 6MT Mustang GT for a little over a year now and it's been an awesome ride. Except for the cup holders. Which, honestly, are just for show because putting anything in them is enough to get in my way of shifting gears. I can't imagine how bad it is with a short shifter.
So with that...
Just FDM ABS, so nothing crazy. Though if I were to hunt for a material, I'd probably look for something slightly more ductile (PC-ABS?). An injection molded part would be sweet, but I doubt I'd ever get back the $20,000 in tooling costs lol
"You can have any color you want, so long as it's...
I see what you're getting at and something I quickly thought about for the DH. You're totally right about the excess material, but thin piece and structural rigidity typically don't go hand-in-hand with each other. Plus, trying to shoehorn the thin plate around the existing mounting bracket...
Funny you should ask. Several people over the last couple months have actually reached out about a version for the Dark Horse, and I even had someone send me out their DH seatbelt guide so I could use it to develop a hook.
I should have a final product posted sometime next week.
So huge...
Cool to see there's some interest 🤟
I needed to make a couple more tweaks first, but I actually decided to put these up on an Etsy page I recently made: Etsy Page
Feel free to check them out and whatever other thing I decide to make for my S550. I would definitely love to adjust the design and...
So I recently picked up a Mustang GT optioned with the Recaro bucket seats, and I have to say they were quite possibly equipped with the most useless seat belt guides imaginable. I think "hey, where's your seatbelt??" might be the #1 question I get from passengers. I saw plenty of solutions...
Just thought back to this post when I used the quarter-only vacuum at the car wash this weekend. I'm in my mid-20's, but I guess I must be old too haha
