:amen:Same here... was going to get the Ecoboost and caved on the sound and power of the GT. Never thought I would own a V8, but I'm loving it every time I step on the gas.

My GT got 25.4 on an interstate trip after 500 miles were on it. I'm at 1500 now and I'm getting 17.5-19 combined with lots of horsing around and keeping the RPM's up. Having too much fun to think about shooting for the best economy!

I like your logic. I haven't tried any 87 in mine yet, even asked for 93 when dealer filled it, but will do a comparison soon. Still averaging 22mpg in my GT and it seems the Ecoboost is falling behind in mileage estimates.
Thanks :)

Yah I ran the numbers and the average difference in premium vs regular here in the NOVA/DC area is around 40 cents.

So with that difference, you save around $6 a fill up if you use regular vs premium with 15 gallons and you get about an additional 2+ gallons with the savings. So really 15 gallons in the EB (93) vs 17 in the GT (87).

So using the average EB at 25 combined and the GT 19 combined, you can see that using the same $$$ spent, the EB gets 375 miles on 15 gallons, while the GT gets 323..so the difference is only 52 miles.

In some places that will drop because the difference in regular to premium is closer to .50 cents.

When you factor that in it's really not that much of a savings per year.

Don't forget also the EB estimates from the sticker EPA/MPG are using 87 octane...not 93.

Those cost savings change big time if they use 93.

People are really getting 20 mpg combined in the GT? I find that hard to believe. I guess we'll see when I get mine, but I feel like I'd be lucky to get 16 combined.
I have yet to see 20mpg but I don't have a freeway in my neck of the woods...If you are in an area that is suburb-ish/rural with two main roads with a max speed limit of 45 - 50mph, 20 mpg avg is not possible. So far, 17.3 is at its best with 93 octane.

I went from a 2008 Saab 9-3 2.0T to a 2011 GT. Once you've experienced it, especially if you put Roush Axlebacks on it, no other car will do. It's freaking insane!
My 2011 GT manual got avg 23 mpg on country back roads. Worth every dime in gas.

** if you get the EB, you will have an awesome looking car with adequate power but you will miss out on some very unique and awesome things that go with driving a mustang.
1. Every gas station people will gawk over a GT sound.
2. When you are in 2nd gear and floor it....that sound, that rush, it throws you firmly back in your seat.
3. It WILL make you say things out loud while driving it hard that you can't say in church.
4. NO turbo four will ever ever do that.

Not exactly 20 mpg, but I've been seeing close to it.

Daily commute, with 2/3 highway, 1/3 city, it will jump to 22+, then will settle down to around 19ish once I drive around more in the city on weekends.

Then when I throw it around more, it's more like 16.

Car is a GT manual, 3.55 final drive

Just drove a GT w/ PP tonight. Oops.... :D

There's so much that is hard to quantify that is just better and irreplaceable by the EB.

I was in your position a little while back. Here's what happened.
The first car my dealer had available to drive was a GT PP. Yes it was awesome. I currently have an 07' GT that I drive daily and the 15 is in another league entirely.
I had planned on the EB for several reasons but that test drive had me floundering. So I decided to wait until after I drove an EB.
So now having driven both I ordered the EB early last week.
Why? Because for the price difference I get to keep the 07'.
Also I can pay the EB off sooner and by then should be able to manage a GT350 which is the one I really want.

Enjoy your purchase, whichever way you go.

At our dealer, had a GT in before our six. I told our sale guy we just want to sit in the GT to see if we fit in a 15. Are you sure you don't want to give it a spin? I said no thanks I had a GT before hopefully will again in the future right now the v6 is a perfect fit and I want to enjoy our v6 without regret.

Why is this so hard to believe? There are people getting in the high 20s on the highway in their GT. If your commute is mainly highway and some city, 20 is easy to do I'd say.

MPG is really based on how you drive. If you drive like a madman then yah you aren't going to get 20 combined.

It's hard to argue with this. :)

Like the signature one has on here...when you turn on your car does it turn you on? A GT turning on is just amazing.

I was averaging 23 combined in 2011 GT. Mostly 40-60 mph two lane roads, mountains.

It's not driving like a madman. I do a lot of driving in NYC, and if 80% of your driving is stop-and-go, never getting above 20 mph and doing a lot of idling in 2 mph traffic, 20 mpg is unrealistic. Maybe on straight highway shots.

Personally, I have to work in compartments - financially then emotionally. First is financially. Once I know where I stand there, I don't even look at things that are over what I'm comfortable with. If I do, I'm in trouble because then the emotional side takes over. I chose not to test drive a 5.0 because I wanted to fully enjoy the car I knew I was going to get.
