Heyo,

So I recently received my Stage 1 Gen 5 Kit from Whipple which I purchased from a Whipple dealer and it arrived with the seal broken. I've emailed Whipple and they said it's common for the seal to be broken. Though, the inside of the unit kind of concerns me, as I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like this or not. What do you guys think?

I've forwarded these pictures to Whipple and am currently waiting for a reply.

I don’t blame you for being a little concerned. It may be nothing, but yours has some really odd bumps and form than what @mejohn50 has. The texture looks completely different between them. Kind of looks like something was in there with a ball peen hammer.

Hopefully it means nothing and is all cosmetic…. Interested what Whipple has to say about the differences in texture. I’d send pictures of both like what’s posted here for comparisons sake.

They got back to me based on the pictures I posted above and customer service said they couldn't see anything wrong with it. I completely agree with you though lol, it looks like something was in there at a point.

How were your Whipples both optioned?

It looks like they tried to clean up the casting finish on those parts with a grinder or something. Did you order it with a porting job or anything?

I got a stage 2 kit with oversized heat exchanger.

Didn't order it with any other job, just Stage 1 with the standard sized heat exchanger. I'll wait for someone with a Stage 1 to post a pic of theirs. If not, I'll reply back to them with your images as a comparison.

Mine is clearly a different casting, and I got it during the COVID shipping delays so not sure what procedures have changed on their end. Could be standard practice now to clean it up in there.

I agree it looks like they were working on some casting marks with a grinder. I will get some pics of mine, it's sitting on a bench right now. My seal was broken when I received mine, as well, but I bought mine from a guy that bought 2, then decided to go in a different direction, so I had assumed he had broken the seal. Mine also is a stage 2 with larger heat exchanger and according to their tech support, by serial number mine is a Gen5, 3.0X. It has the triple brick intercooler, but the head units should be pretty much the same as far as casting.

Right! OP has only 3 "connections" whereas the others have 5 total. Looks like the the side 2 were reduced to one with it being at 45* instead of 1 at 90* and the other at 0*. Very odd...

OPs looks like the space has been opened up and will flow more, as long as the longevity is the same with less webs holding things.

Look, also, at the difference in the shaft for the pulley. That is an odd ball for sure.

I'd send it back.
It looks like they did the final machining with an Axe.
Send Whipple the comparison pics and tell them you want to exchange it.Tell them if this is normal how come yours looks different than other kits? You paid big dollars for your kit and should expect it to look like everyone else's no matter what stage. It almost looks like some type of Prototype or something. The supports being different etc.

Damn, has me more worried now if it's supposed to be pretty much the same.

I've emailed them asking for pictures of another kit that's the same. Time to wait. Does anyone here have a Stage 1 kit that can chime in?

Thank you all the others for the replies too.
