Top 5 Environmental Issues in China in 2023 | Earth.Org

" According to the 2021 World Air Quality Report, out of 1,374 cities located in East Asia, 143 (or about 11%) recorded annual average PM2.5 concentrations that are seven times greater than World Health Organization (WHO) standards. All of them were located in China, with the town of Hotan in southwestern Xinjiang experiencing the highest level of pollution in the country at about 101 µg/m³, over 20 times the WHO guideline value.

Estimated to cause an average of 1.2 million premature deaths every year, China’s poor air quality is primarily attributed to the rapid economic expansion the country experienced since 1979, which resulted in a drastic increase in coal-powered industrial production and electricity demand, as well as an exponential rise in private vehicles. It is estimated that roughly 48% of Chinese CO2 emissions come from the industrial sector, with 40% from the power – mainly coal – and 8% from the transport industry. With an ever-increasing population, the demand for electricity has grown with no respite, leading to even more coal-burning and worsened air standards."
........

"Furthermore, despite pledging to reach net zero emissions before 2060, the country remains by far the world’s largest producer and consumer of coal, which alone covers 60% of its electricity demand. In an effort to restore the economy to pre-pandemic levels and curb the energy crisis sparked by the exponential rise in industrial activities the country experienced in 2021, the Chinese government ordered factories to increase their production capacity and built more than triple the amount of new coal power capacity as the rest of the world combined. Unsurprisingly, CO2 emissions in the same year almost reached 12 billion tonnes, accounting for 33% of the global total."
..........

"
High on the list of environmental issues in China is water pollution. As much as 90% of the country’s groundwater is contaminated by toxic human and industrial waste dumping, as well as farm fertilisers, causing about 70% of rivers and lakes to be unsafe for human use. Nearly half of the population does not have access to water that is safe for human consumption, while two-thirds of the rural population has to rely on tainted water due to a lack of adequate systems to treat wastewater."
Hello; Can hardly wait for the cryptic response and the likely spin as to how these facts do not count. I will try to imitate.

You all are too dumb to understand. What idiots! Cannot even understand that building wind generator parts and EV's is the important thing. China has promised to clean up their act in 50 or so years. China has long range plans to be very green eventually. They are only having short term super polluter status. Their heart is in the right place, while you morons just want to keep driving ICE gas guzzlers like my Mustang V8 GT.

Propaganda I say, nowhere in the annals of the scholarly articles I read is this information available. So it isn’t true. You propagandist. China leads the world in climate conservation and E V E R Y O N E must follow Chinas lead (sarcasm)
Just in case

So you agree that emissions are a bad thing. Looks like youā€˜re joining our team then. Congratulations.

Hello; Oh this will be too easy. Every time i breathe I emit CO2. So does everyone else and all creatures which respire using oxygen. (Includes plants by the way) Refer back to a longish post of mine recently about respiration, decay and burning.
Likely this was a slip on your part but shows the mind set. CO2 which is a part of the life cycles for the living things on the planet is not evil.

I'm doing my part just like China. Sure, I drive a V8 Mustang now, but I will be 100% green in 50 or so years (when I'm almost 130).

I said ā€œemissionsā€ā€¦that refers to more than just CO2…..
Focus on the words I use. I choose them carefully. There was NO mistake on my part.
The mistake was yours in assuming that I meant CO2 specifically.
This is why we struggle to have a decent conversation.

Hello; In a way that has already started. I refer to the Nordic country deciding the reduce by half the cattle farmers can keep due to methane. Not a big step to people are emitters.

Hello; Nice try to dissemble. But you are correct in that it was not a mistake. Thing is there are many billions of us now. No matter how many rules and changes are made we will be emitters just by being alive and having a lifestyle.

What’s going to be funny is when the actual depopulation starts by force. But I’m sure the proponents of this whole thing are going to be good with it because green you know.

That’s why I mentioned on one of my post there will be a day these folks might look in the mirror and ask themselves what did we do. Even then though I think their pride and ego will get in the way of that. Their loved ones dragged from their homes and sent off to encampments because again green you know. I mean that has never happened in the history of humanity. Dragging folks off because of a crazy ideology. šŸ˜‚

Come on now. Either you don’t understand the natural carbon cycle or you’re being deliberately obtuse. As a former science teacher I’d like to think that you understand it. But the other side of me thinks that you aren’t trolling, and instead missed an entire section of ā€œhow the world worksā€.
I can’t think of a third option here.

Anyways, here’s the seminar you missed. We will educate you properly one way or the other. You’re welcome

What were we saying earlier about uninformed opinions?

Hello; I left out landfills in which we have been dumping organic waste for decades. ( I am old enough to have been a kid back when the dumps were not buried. We would take our 22 rifles to the dump and shoot rats.)
By burying the organic waste it becomes anaerobic so the bacteria feeding will produce methane.
I know. Have everyone be mandated to compost all organic waste. OH OH. What will apartment dwellers do? might be a problem similar to their problems charging an EV while living in an apartment. Wonder how many folks live in densely populated city apartments compared to those of us who have private homes and can have home charging. ( NOTE- an interpretation by the way)

And I do know the carbon cycle.

Hello; Unfortunately, if they ever do get absolute control the dragging folks off because of ideology will not be out of the question. We saw the lack of humanity and decency from those in power during Covid lockdowns. Arresting people surfing or walking a dog alone outside in the sun light and open air. Too real.

if you know the carbon cycle, why did you claim that breathing causes a change to the planet?
Was it a misunderstanding or a mistake?

This; but I already explained to Burkey, that he is lacking critical thinking skills. This was before he had his mental breakdown in posts #783:

"I’m not squirming. I’m sitting here, facepalming every time one of you says something stupid.
The ā€œfeelingā€ is one of frustration. Frustration that even when corrected, you guys can’t work out out. Hence, I’m quitting. Thereā€˜s nothing to be gained here because you guys are impervious to logic. "

and #784:

"Yes, you are the fuck your feelings crowd and nearly everything you’ve posted has been based on your feelings, not science.

The science of AGW/CC doesn’t give a fuck about your feelings.
Don’t like EV’s? Fuck your feelings.
Donā€˜t believe that GHG’s are altering our climate? Fuck your feelings.

Get used to it. The modern world is coming whether you like it or not.

EDIT: What’s even funnier is that I was taking the piss out of you and you didn’t even understand it."

This was pure mustang6g comedy gold. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I was afraid I ran the little fella off. :cwl::cwl::cwl:
