I have a DSS aluminum shaft in my car (2016 GT M/T). It was a 2019 build shaft and has well under 10k (close to 6k) miles on it. The rear cv already has noticeable play. It clicks when I twist it. I compared against a new good one and its is different. It also tightens up when I compress the joint compared to where it operates at. I am guessing the spline is wore out on the stub. They don't want to send me the parts to repair it. They want me to send it in, but then I have the cost of the repair plus shipping the shaft. That and a 6 week minimum wait time. Does anyone know where I can source a CV repair kit for this pinion flange size?
I am going to check with a couple driveline shops locally. With any luck the spline is bad and they can repair that.

Sell it and put the stock one back in. Screw DSS.

Ha, you are not the first one to tell me that. Stock one is long gone. I would have to get another.
I was going to send it in, but with the cost of shipping and repairs, it is going to be expensive. Then I will have a shaft that I know only lasted a few thousand miles the last time... I like the idea of the Steeda/Spicer shaft. Real u-joints, made by an OEM supplier.

So my car is very similar to yours in year and power. That is a great data point if you can take the stock driveshaft. I have a manual trans but would be a good thing to try. Why did you get a new one?

I thought it was creating a humming noise. It was the transmission. I’m still using my original and holding onto the new one as a spare.

DSS is sending me a new CV kit. Not cheap, but cheaper than a new shaft. We will see how long this one lasts. The old one has major pits where the ball bearings were interfacing. Yeah, it was bad. The housing had a pretty good crack in it.

Be sure to post your CV repair with pics, it may benefit others.
