This always boggles my mind. Just let it float and burn.

It's not like they can put it out. Abandon ship, and we'll check out what's left later.

I don't know the logistics. But I would think we would have figure out how to deal with a boat fire and targeted fire suppression system.

I know zero about cargo ships or firefighting. I should add that fact. But I work in insurance and think of it from a loss perspective and how the loss could be mitigated.

This will become a huge issue as more EV's are on the market. All it takes is 1 to spontaneously combust and burn the whole ship.

Before we go off the deep end.......

"It was not clear whether the batteries first sparked the fire".

Time will hopefully tell us what the cause was. I certainly do agree that transporting EV's come with a new set of problems. I'm sure the EV manufacturers are putting procedures into place to prevent this type of disaster.

Yes, the determination has not been made yet. Fact is that these fires will become more common with EV's.

Thank you for catching that. That's what I get for reading the article quickly.

It's clear that EV's ignite at much greater rate than an ICE vehicle. Look at the mess GM is digging out out of with Bolts. Tesla has had there issues. Rivian just had one catch fire at their plant. I'm still all for a world where electric vehicles coexist with ICE's. Heck I have a deposit on a Lightning. But something needs to be done preventive measure wise to help mitigate this risk. Maybe onboard sprinkler systems. HAHA

I'd be afraid to put an EV in my garage.

Proves that German EV cars are faster than Tesla’s to catch fire too..

Hahaha yeah 50 years of shipping cars then spontaneous EV battery fire that takes 35,000 L water and 8 hrs by specialized firefighters .....that ship is done And so is cargo.
Just what the hell do you find so funny. Peoples lives were put in risk over the most dangerous situation that can occur on a ship at sea. And by the way ICE powered cars can spontaneously explode under extreme heat. Regardless of the the type of power these cars have they are all toast.
