I did the same and sealed the gap between the hood skins to stop water flooding the hood :Finally found some time to clean up that mess under the hood extractors.

Looks great man. Finally got to detailing it since I brought it home from dealer. I did not let dealer prep it. Cleaned wheels and tires with chemical guys wheel cleaner. Worked pretty good. Washed it with Zaino Z7, then clay bar, then wash again after clay bar. Put on coat of Zaino AIO and hand buffed.
Will put on Zaino Z5 polish to top off next week. That can be layered for deeper shine. Iām beat

Looks great. Iāve been using Zaino since 1999. Works great but a lot of workLooks great man.
I too did the Zaino polishes on my car. Stuff is amazing. It'll hold me over till I get the car ceramic coated. Hopefully real soon.
I did the Zaino AIO, then the Z5, then the Z2. I used the Zaino Gloss Enhancer in between the Z5 and Z2 as well for that extra pop.

What did you use to seal the gap?
Yeah thatās what I ended up with - full details and some videos on why I did the mod on my build thread :Silicone will work
Hope that helps.Moving back to the hood vents and a niggle I had with them letting water between the hood skins ā you can see the upper and lower hood skins in this photo when the vents were out (and the amount of crap that can get under them) :
![]()
You can just see the underside rain tray in that photo that looks like this on the underside of the hood with the hood blanket removed :
![]()
This is the underside of the vent that āshouldā channel the water down into the plastic rain tray :
![]()
That works fine for light rain, but if the vent is flooded (or in the event of washing the car / jet washing the vents etc) water backs up and then escapes between the hood skins, settling in the front edge over the headlights until it is either steamed off with engine heat or the hood is lifted moving the water to the back corners and out of the drain holes near the hinge:
That didnāt sit well with me ⦠I considered some front edge drain holes but if / when the hood corrosion issues start I donāt think Ford would have taken to kindly to that modification ⦠lol
I decided on this route :

And then some Unibond butyl sealant :

But after five days the Unibond stuff still hadnāt even skinned over, so I dug it all out and cleaned it up with ear cleaners and white spirit (what a pain in the arse) and then did it again with some 150°C black silicone.
All the edges and holes around the vents were covered in Lanoguard (Fluid Film in the states) along with the studs and mounting nuts. Vents back in ā note the lower skin of the hood that you can see in lime :

Pre mod, any water that got on top of that lime piece entered the hood skin cavity and didnāt go through the vent to the rain tray.
Torrential rain over the weekend, followed by a wash where I purposely flooded the hood vents with a open ended running hose resulted in a good test :
Happy with that, the replacement hood blanket can now go on

I started on my 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Car was black and looked wet.LOL
Same here. Been using them since '99 on my '99 Hugger Orange Camaro SS.
The results speak for themselves.
