Ha! I posted as a joke, but immediately after I got to thinking and googled rimless wheels, and found several references to hubless... Maybe not practical, but definitely cool and interesting!

i heard a guy call tires "casings"... it takes all types...

No, not really. See post #74.

The tire casing is the body of the tire and includes components such as the Bead, Sidewall, Body Ply and Innerliner. Basically everything except the Tread and Belt System. Most passenger tire casings are multi-ply and incorporate polyester, nylon or rayon cords within the casing rubber compound.

Granted I'm a dyed in the wool gearhead going back to the late 70's. But you put a tire on a wheel and a wheel has a rim. Why do people call wheels 'rims"??

Worse yet when you ask people what size tires they have they respond with a wheel (aka rim) size! GRrrrrr r
