Harmonic balancer install

Is there like a measurement or anyway I can tell my balancer is fully settled against the crank?
I used the long pully install kit from autozone. I felt like it went as far is it could go. But I just want to make sure before I finish bolting everything back up. Thanks.

Courtesy of Roush. I'm not sure where it ends up as far as depth, but there is a particular torque sequence when securing the balancer.

Looking at your pictures, is there a gap between the pulley and the HB? Because that makes me think that yes, maybe it's not quite on all the way.

Since (I'm guessing) you also have to run a belt on the HB, if it was that far off you'd probably notice it when you replace the belt. My car is gone, so I'm not much help as far as looking to see how the OE setup is.

Kind of makes you wish you had taken "before" pictures, huh? BTDT more times than I can count.

yes. If I would if knew this part of my install was this serious I would of took measurements and photos before hand . Now if someone could do that on their stock balancer. That would be great !

I’ve tried 6 times to put that Harmonic balancer on. Well it gets on till the last 7-8mm, since there’s still a gap of 9mm between the balancer and front engine cover. See pics. It doenst get fully seated (I think). Can’t remember what the gap should be. Maybe anyone could give me some advice?

Already tried heating up. Polish the insane and outside of balancer en crankshaft. Use oil and WD40… Nothing works for the end bit.

Hope someone could help me since I am getting pretty desperate at the moment… Did OPG and Cranksprocket…

FWIW, I'm attaching some files involving dampers, pulleys and Torque-to-Yield bolts.

While I have not replaced or re-installed my damper, I have saved some reference files provided by others. I'm attaching those. Hopefully, they'll allow others to confirm things are installed correctly.

Sorry, I should have clarified my post.

I have not replaced my damper. The files I posted were references offered by others previously.

With the thread now getting some additional visibility, others could offer support to help things along.

Update; drove an hour to someone with the same engine to look. Seems to have the same gap of 9mm/0.35 inches, which is stock.

sad that nobody took the time to send me a photo/tell me what the gap is like. Could have helped me alot, anyway lets continue the Twin turbo build.

Measure the distance between the end of the crankshaft snout, and the crank sprocket(making sure the sprocket is flat against the crank where it meets the oil pump)

Measure length/depth of the harmonic balancer center section (sleeve portion that presses over the crankshaft)

The balancer hole/sleeve is deeper than the length of the crankshaft snout. if the gap at the end of the snout to balancer is the same as the difference in the previous measurements taken, then the balancer is fully seated.

The easier way to do this, is to first measure the gap between the OEM balancer and a point on the timing cover before you remove it.

If you are installing an aftermarket balancer, then measure the distance from the first belt rib, to the timing cover in order to eliminate any discrepancies in the thickness of the two balancers. The ribs must line up, otherwise the belt wouldn't track straight.
