I installed my 5 Spurs start button today. Had a little difficulty getting the stock button off but managed to do so without any damage. Put the 5 Spurs button on, all looks good and the engine starts and stops like normal. However, now the wrench warning light is on and I get a message to See the Manual. The only thing I found in the manual is on page 103 where it says that the powertrain needs service due to a powertrain malfunction. I drove the car yesterday and had no issues.

Could I have done anything to cause this when installing the 5 Spurs button or is it just a coincidence? What could be causing the warning?

If it appeared after the button change... good chance something is going on there.

Can you back out as in remove the new button, see if things change ?

Did you plug in all the switches (securely) on that panel next to your start button? They're mostly drive mode (powertrain options) and steering. Could be a culprit.

Silly question but did you disconnect the battery before making the change?

I am still trying to figure out how he installed the button cover. :inspect: I did have to take out any of the bezels to do it.

I did not take any of the bezels off. Just removed the stock button like the video shows on the 5 Spurs web site. It just was more difficult to remove than the video showed. I did not disconnect the battery but that probably would have been a good idea. Not sure how hard it is to remove the 5 Spurs button now to see if I have the same issue with the stock button.

The engine starts and stops like normal, all of the bezels (emergency lights, traction, steering mode, driving mode) all function fine. I did not take the car out on the road yet since installing the 5 Spurs button.

Everything appears to be working fine but I now have the yellow wrench light.

I’m guessing this is your issue. Probably just need to connect an OBD2 scanner and clear any codes that show up. If you’re not comfortable doing this bring it to the dealer.

That's the big mistake you made by not disconnecting the battery. Disconnect the battery now and check to see the start button is in correctly then wait a minute or so and then connect battery up again then it should reset!

Scanning for a code and resetting is super easy and takes less than a minute.

As stated above, disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if it clears the code on its own.

Yeah, that is out of my comfort zone. Gonna schedule with the dealer today. Thanks for the help

Yeah OP. Dealer would charge you a pretty penny just for that. On the scale of 1 to 10, doing any of the 2 proposed fixes is an easy 1 man. Do the battery first. And if that fails, even Autozone or any of those places would clear the codes for free. But it'd be even better if you just order an ELM327 cable (I paid $15 shipped for mine), and check and clear codes with FORScan... plus you can do many other easy modifications, like most of us do. Or start a new thread on your regional forum and ask for somebody local with FORScan for help. Any of those options will be WAY cheaper than what a dealer will charge you. Good luck.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cleared the wrench warning light. Everything is back to normal and the car runs fine. I appreciate everyone's help!
Good to hear. For the future if you are doing anything electrical to your car disconnect the battery. :like:
