reddit's new policy on 'hate speech'

'While the rule on hate protects such group, it does not protect all groups or all forms of identity. for example, the rule does not protect groups of people who are in the majority or who promote such attacks of hate'

they went through and banned over 2000 subs yesterday, including a very large number of conservative subreddits. They have now stated that racism is A OK as long as it is against white folk. And hate speech is ok as long as it is again white people, conservatives, and ironically, men (who are a minority as compared to women).

Unfortunately, there is not a good alternative. as they've removed groups, those groups have moved to a few different platforms. However those platforms are almost primarily those groups that were banned from reddit, so they are their own opposing echo chambers.

They even banned such subreddits as /rightwingLGBT because those LGBT members are 'wrongthink' and do not agree with the LGBT party line.

I will note that there were a few left wing subreddits banned such as /antifa. But /blackpeopletwitter (which you must prove via picture that you are black to post in) is still up, as is /fragilewhiteredditor, while its opposing subreddit got removed.

Yesterday there was a post on /politics that made it to /bestof that was supporting a 'science' article saying that conservatives are mentally deficient and that liberals are biologically superior to them. And then of course all of the discourse that followed leading towards eugenics and such...still up, still there.

Just looking to start a conversation regarding thought policing and PC policing, and the apparent attempt by ever large social media conglomerate to seperate groups and turn everything into the echo chamber of their choice, be it facebook, twitter, reddit, etc.

Honestly, IMHO, it's too late to give a damn. Enough youth have been brainwashed that will someday be our leaders and a majority, the good ole US of A has more than likely seen it's better days. If T gets beat in November, the mob will rule and Katy bar the door. I'll survive and protect my rights as best I can. I just feel sorry for my children and grandchildren that we've left them such a mess. I guess God will sort it all out in the end.

apparantly. However, I guess Camaro folk will be able to talk shit and hate towards Mustangs, since Mustangs are the more popular (and better) car.

While I fully agree with reddit's right as a private company to do this, I also feel that there is a concerted effort between news media and social media to drive the divide as wide as possible, to prevent discussion between opposing groups so that maybe some middle ground can be fought, or to allow people to find a spot in the middle. Instead they all see to want to completely ostracize the opposite group and ferment this division.

It really seems to me that the people 'in charge' are doing everything that they can to force the divide to keep the people from realizing just how badly we're getitng fucked right now, or are soon to be fucked even harder. I mean, division is getting so bad it seems you cannot even approach the opposite side to talk to them unless you do it on your knees and wash their feet for them first, and, screw that, I do have some self respect. But screw these people who are intentionally trying to prevent free speech or free trade of ideas and discussion and compromise.

And also, people need to learn how to f'in compromise.

But also, I mean ACTUAL compromise, not the compromise we've had on gun rights:

Exactly why we need the government to step in. Our government needs to reign in Silicon Valley before they actively destabilize our society even further.

I'm libertarian and Reddit has allowed and sometimes encouraged doxxing campaigns for the past few years without any repercussions. They've condoned public humiliation on a massive scale and they've made a ton of money while doing it.

They don't care about hate speech as shown by the fact they have a deliberate segregation country club in r/BlackPeopleTwitter and r/Politics spewing anti-republican propaganda 24/7, they care about profiteering off of social unrest to court advertisers. They've betrayed everything Aaron Swartz stood for when he created Reddit so they could keep their sleazy VC buddies and investors happy.

No discriminatory behavior should be tolerated. The right, nor the left gets a pass on this.

ok, but how do we get the government to step in? Do we bring back the rules regarding bias in news and classify things like the large social media platforms (reddit, IG, facebook, etc) news sources as well to allow oversight into biasness?

I mean, this is a damn slippery slope. I am very disgusted with how far Reddit specifically has strayed from AS's intentions, as you state, to make a buck. That's why they removed alot of subs in the past was because their investors didn't care for them (FPH is a good example here)

Hard to say, to me, there was no dilemma with social media until it became the favored method of communication for politicians and cooperate news. In fact, those things are lumped in with social media and should be divided as news media and political media. Having Grandma, the weather channel, and the President all giving you their opinion on Facebook or Twitter about climate change is not OK.

Most of the fuss I see is about fabricated news. False information is not a 'bad' idea, it's 'bad' information. Wanting people to not spread false information does not weaken democracy, rather, strengthens it. We can't expect people to make teh proper decision if they are basing that decision on lies.

Now, regulation on what counts as what media would be welcome. Want to call yourself news? Report news. Facts. Not purposefully misrepresented or false data to support an agenda. Though, I can see many issues with how that's regulated or upheld. Moreover, shit like this https://lawandcrime.com/high-profil...le-viewer-would-think-tucker-carlson-is-news/ and the time when CNN faked hurricane damage/flooding comes to mind instantly.

As for your last point, yeah, it's not the decentralized website we had used in the past and it sucks.

What you are watching is a major attack by the Democrats/Marxist/Communists of the left. all they needed was a nice engineered hoax to start their assault on America and China launched it with an engineered virus. They had to go with China because Russia failed Hillary in 2016.

1. Engineered virus spread world wide by infected Chinese "tourists" with support from the World Health Organization in masking its serious nature until it was well on its way.

2. Use the engineered virus to destroy the economies of the enemies of communism, force businesses to shut down, empty schools, close all forms of entertainment, refuse to limit alcohol, legal and illegal drugs and whip bored, broke, unemployed masses of weak minded leftist idiots/democrats into an ongoing frenzy with contrived social drama.

3. Have a democrat/thug cop murder a random black man and whip national news frenzy up about social injustice, blame the president even though he lowered black unemployment to record lows, increased black wealth to record highs, wrote, supported and signed sentencing reform over the objections of democrats and improved black home ownership rates.

4. Use hundreds of millions in Soro's/Bloomberg money to to fund race riots and looting, to demand we end Constitutional rights, rewrite history, remove any statue or monument the left objects too. Things like an elk statue in Portland, monuments to military veterans, black veterans, abolitionists, religious figures ALL MUST GO. Only Mark, Lenin, Mao and Hitler.......................heroes of Democrats are to be allowed.

5. Use socialist controlled social media to restrict any conservative speech since all speech not pre-approved by communist overlords is to be deemed illegal speech in the very near future. Use socialist controlled media to destroy the election and prevent citizens from voting unless they vote for the approved candidate.

6. Incite racial violence against white people. Incite violence against white owned businesses and property. Attack white people everywhere and then film them defending themselves and claim its "racist". Use leftists in law enforcement and attorney's generals offices to falsely charge white people and destroy their lives by taking them to court on trumped up or contrived charges of "racism".

It's obvious what the leftists are doing. Hell, they have dozens of paid shills here spouting their commie crap hundreds of times a day.

Reddit and similar companies make money from ads. If you disagree with what they do, stop supporting them with clicks. Pretty simple.

Hack, I fully agree, and I support a private companies right to be an echo chamber of their own making. Was stating more on the trends we are seeing that all social media platforms and 'news' media are doing this, they are becoming echo chamber hollow shells of what they used to be or even claim to be, and things are too fractured that it doesn't look like there are any replacements for this currently. There appears to be a concerted effort by corporations and politicians to further drive a wedge between different 'factions' of Americans, to fabricate hate and keep us divided, and part of doing this is to try and keep the different sides from conversing en masse, because then maybe we will realize that we are not each others enemies, we are actually on the same side, and have the same enemies.
