So i recently had this ol farm dump truck towed to my property..all there but parts truck most likely but seller said it will run with a few things getting attention..well as I've had time lately to look everything over I've noticed it has a hole blown/eroded thru the intake manifold.. about size of a dime maybe...the engine is a gas 370 ford big block..I have never seen this issue on an engine and not sure what caused it or where to begin with the repair..any experience or thoughts..will try to get a pic up soon.

The "right" way is probably drill/tap and pipe plug, but that would be a pain because you will want to remove and reinstall the intake. Heck, even just stuffing something in the hole might work. You can buy small rubber tapered plugs at a local hardware store and something like that might mostly plug the hole with the addition of some silicone. With an old engine like that you can probably get by with a slight vacuum leak and it will still run, it will just be a little lean.

I think the drill/tap thing sounds like a good plan..hopefully its close in size to a pipe tap and i can plug..or standard tapped hole with the silicone..I watched a YouTube video of a guy doing the epoxy weld putty on an intake hole, left a comment and he replied that it set up nicely and plugged up the hole good but later on at a higher rpm it blew out..I guess there probably isnt but a few of us older mustang owners thats messing with old farm trucks but i thought why not ask here anyways..thanks

If repair is impossible, any non-CJ 429/460 intake manifold will work, same engine family/architecture.

That stuff works great. I even used the plastic repair stuff for my PP belly pan got ripped. It mended it great. Says it holds up to 3900#

So I took a few photos of the problem area...seems to be that something broke away from a flange which is still mounted by a few bolts.. hopefully I can get the flange unbolted and make a blockoff plate to mount there...or replace the actual damaged part.

I'm guessing that's the passenger side of the intake?

It's been a few years since I've seen a 370 and this one's pretty dirty, but I'm betting this is an EGR port. They're always on the passenger side of a 429/460. If I remember to do so I'll get a pic of a CJ intake EGR flange later, as I have an engine on a stand currently.

You can just fab a plate and bolt it on to block off the port.

A picture of a smog 460 intake, EGR flange is above the carb flange as seen in the image, covered with a plate with two bolts.

Yes it's the passenger side..i believe the egr is intact and behind the carb(will get a pic)..I thought maybe a choke stove setup too..and probably will be going the block off route..

I do believe in your intake pic that might be the exact area and size your block off plate is covering..is the plate a purchased part or fabbed?

I don't know that you can buy the block off plates, I've always fabbed them in the past.

BTW, that pic was one I grabbed off the net, not my intake.

Ok..thanks..I searched for pics of the 370 intake last week with no luck of finding whats on the engine..never thought of looking at the 429/460 either..here's a pic or two of what i thought was the egr but I'm not experienced enough in old fords..any ideas?

That thing on the back of the carb spacer is also EGR/emissions related. I know they used to sell a plate to eliminate that device, but that's easily fabbed also.

I tell you after noticing 2 smog pumps on there yesterday it wouldn't surprise me to see additional egr crap...So would you remove and blank/cap off most emissions stuff?
