5w50 2018 Mustang GT

Recently bought 5w50 Amsoil for my car(friend recommended.) It’s stock though and driven hard only on the weekends really. Do you guys recommend using it? If I do, what could go wrong?

If you only beat the shit out of your car, it's not a bad choice at all. Just be sure to have your oil temp gauge up and make sure it's in the green before you flog it. That oil is thicc when it's cold and you don't want those huge oil pressure spikes.

If you are going to track it (road course) or SC it, fine. If not 50 weight is just to heavy. Ford recommends 5W-20 for a reason. 5W-30 in "rough" duty. Sometimes less is more.

My 2 cents....
With all the complaints about the "typewriter tick" in many of the '18 5.0's, I'd stick with whatever engine oil you're currently using if your engine is not ticking....

Appreciate it. *Knock on wood* it does not tick and I daily drive it so it really wouldn’t make sense to switch up. That being said, Amsoil 5w50 for sale in Chicagoland area!

With all the complaints about the "typewriter tick" in many of the '18 5.0's, I'd stick with whatever engine oil you're currently using if your engine is not ticking....

The infamous tick has been around for a long time. It is not oil dependent. Brand, viscosity, and type do not matter. Many people claim that they don't hear it until after their first oil change. I just changed mine recently and stayed with Ford's recommended oil, 5W-20. I hear nothing. Moly products like Ceratec can reduce the volume of the tick, not eliminate it.

The OP's question was about using 5W-50 in a stock engine that get driven like a Mustang should be. The answer is no. Stick with what the manufacturer recommends. Pick your brand and type and leave it at that.

I hadn't seen any info about it (I'm sure there is plenty on this forum, but I haven't researched it).
Mine doesn't tick either. Like you I stayed with recommended oil at first oil change (a year ago).
