If you're like me and have a bad back and find it hard to both hold the clutch and put the new spring in this may help.

  1. Get 2 small zip ties.
  2. Slip them around the spring's loops but NOT THE VERY TOP OR BOTTOM WHERE THE PERCH SEATS.
  3. Press down on the spring and then use the zip ties to hold it compressed as far as you can on both sides so that its not curved.
  4. Put the spring and perch in place on the clutch peddle. Easier now that you don't have to also compress it while doing it.
  5. Use snips, scissors or a knife to cut the zip ties and pull them out releasing the spring.

Done.

^ I did it exactly same way a few months ago.
It went perfectly smooth and fast as described here.

Getting the old spring out without damaging the perch was definitely harder than installing the Steeda spring on the perch. Good idea with the zip ties. That actually could be helpful during stock removal and not mar up the stock spring.

Exactly the same technique I used to install the spring on the shift lever of our '29 Model A.

If you have power seats, use a 2x4 between clutch pedal and seat to push and hold clutch to the floor. The clutch spring and perch almost falls out.......I did pad it with rags so there was no rubbing......

Not sure what 2x4 is, but I can imagine to put some kind of rod between clutch pedal and seat upholstery and then push the seat toward the pedal.
Great idea, rayban1 !

2x4 is standard size framing wood for houses, it isn't actually 2" x 4" either any more but its still called that. Probably outside the US you would have a different name for it.

Personally I just squash the whole stack with the spring in it together with my hand and it goes in just fine.

Thank you for the explanation about framing wood. We know 5x10 cm "boards", which are called remelj.

Your fingers has to be very strong.
Mine were only shaking before spring jumped from my hand and roll under workbench.
