Yesterday I traded my GT350 for a 2004 Z06. I absolutely loved and still love the Mustang. I just decided it was time for a change. Owning a 944 recently I really wanted to try a smaller sporty car - but still with a V8.

Anyway, I'm not saying goodbye because hopefully you all don't mind if I still hang out here to talk about Mustangs.

Ha ha! Sorry - I don't have pics yet. I bought the car 8+ hours out of town yesterday. Dodged some tornados on the way back.

I have a track day scheduled for June 3rd Monday, so it will be a busy few days of prep.

Thinking about running Motorcraft 5W-50 in this engine. Will the LS engine melt down if a Motorcraft product comes into contact with it?

The engine won't melt down, it will just drink more oil.

Will be interested to hear your thoughts. I understand the itch for change. I had the R at Mid-Ohio this weekend and still love it, but it really made me want to get my (E36 BMW) race car back together and finished so I can get back to pushing a car with a cage and full safety gear.

Because it was raining heavily on and off, I ran Day 2 on street tires (and I had *just* corded my Cup 2s, so that worked out perfectly). Without the sticky rubber, managing front end grip becomes a really big part of the job of getting around a track quickly. I do imagine the Corvette will be better in that regard.

Side note on tires: the MPSS I was using were remarkably sticky under braking in particular; felt like I gave up very little in the braking zones relative to the Cups, but I did have to take a fair bit off my entry speed to get the nose turned.

To me, a car is more than the sum of parts and driving experience... it's something which has to make you turn back and look at it every time you park it and walk away.
If you don't it's because either a. you are not a car enthusiast or b. you are driving the wrong car.

I can't see myself looking back at a Corvette, sorry.

Well, here goes.
I love the Voodoo engine, and I think Ford engineers did an awesome job tuning the suspension on the GT350.

However, it weighs 3800 lbs and the seat is quite high off the ground. After driving the 944 I started feeling like the Mustang is almost 1/2 way to being an SUV with super stiff suspension rather than a sporty car. But the 944 didn't have enough power for me and it didn't have a V8. I like the balance of a car with a transaxle. I think better weight distribution improves how a sporty car functions.

Probably the Z06 will be slower on track, but I think it will still be plenty of fun. I really like the size of it, and even on the street you can tell that it weighs a lot less than the Mustang.

The modern things like big screens, seat heaters and coolers, active exhaust, etc. are great, but they don't add lightness. I drove some 2014 Corvettes and they are great, but I really like the C5. Also, the C5 is getting older. I will be able to find a nice used GT350 even as long as 10-15 years from now if I want to go back. After another 5-10 years most C5s will need a lot of odds and ends to put in good condition.

And I have to say that money is a big factor to me. A less expensive summer toy is an improvement in my opinion. Now I have a small loan that I will pay back probably before the end of the year. I might buy a Fiesta ST as a winter vehicle.

No need to apologize.

I think I'm car poly-amorous. I love all kinds of cars. I've always thought the C5 body was beautiful.

This is the first Chevy I've ever owned though. Hopefully I won't regret it, but I'm glad to roll the dice and try something different.

I love my fiesta ST ... don't tell the 350 but nothing beats a little city car in the big city...

Congrats on the vette
Sorry, another car I would not look back for :) ... I'd rather do another Cooper S or a GTI for the same money, faster and better handling.
But hey, it's not my money, it's your money, so enjoy :)

If they are really the same money and better handling, thanks for the tip. I will look at them.

I thought that the Fiesta ST was cheaper with better handling than either of those cars, but I haven't been looking at them much recently.

I think he's thinking of the FOCUS ST. The Fiesta ST is like 3k less than a GTI and that's before any dealing or rebates. The GTI may handle better but not by any massive stretch. It's more that it has better breaking and more interior room. With the money you save you can make a Fiesta ST trounce a stock GTI around most short tracks, it's the long straight away they may catch up.
