2018 GT low rpm engine rattle, cylinder damage pics, Ford buyback process

Yup, the people who think that these engines are just noisy or that the 2k rattle is drive-line noise are in denial. At this point there are dozens of well documented cases of owners with only the 2k rattle as a symptom discovering substantial amount of internal wear and damage during the short/long block warranty swaps. Unfortunately for everyone else, it seems like Ford has stopped approving engine replacements based on engine noise alone. The most current owners may get is a copy of the BBQ tick SSM. Warranty or not, I wouldn't want to get stuck with a grenade like this beyond the buy back window.
Yep, that’s my dealer said. They’re saying it’s the BBQ tick SSM but I have the rattle, completely different from that noise. They won’t touch it, so I opened a case with Ford and now I’m waiting for the Field Service Engineer to take a trip out and diagnose my noise....

Just the other day I was rolling through a restaurant parking lot and the rattle/grind was ricocheting off everything... embarrassing for a brand new Mustang GT.

There is also a video of a 2019 GT undergoing an engine replacement due to oil consumption. The tech shows the oil filter which is full of metal.

Nearly 800 comments in that thread. Didn't bother watching any of the videos of people demonstrating their BBQ tick/2k rpm rattle.

Just drove four hours all highway, when I finally stopped and was driving around town, I had the rattle like I’ve never had before. Prior to this, I only had the rattle in sport mode above 2500 RPM. After this drive, I had it from 1500 or up in regular drive mode. Thing is, car is running fine no issues. I’m convinced that this engine is just a noisy engine. Our expectations are just very high, we expect quiet performance. I think we’re all just gonna have to live with the fact that this engine is noisy.
That noise folks are hearing is metal on metal contact. As an engineer, I can guarantee you that not only is that not "normal", it is a serious specification issue with the Gen3, and Ford engineering is well aware they have a very serious issue with this iteration of the Coyote. Course the bean counters have a much bigger say in these things....

Well I have the 100K warranty so if it's a big enough problem to cause damage I'll find out. I think it's possible that it's both metal on metal contact AND not enough of an issue to cause further problems.

To clarify, my rattle is slight right now after 15K miles, not nearly as prominent as some of the videos I've seen. If mine were that loud, I'd be worried and taking it in. I think there are differences in how out of spec these engines are thus the differences in the intensity of the rattle. The question now is will slight rattles definitely worsen or are they slight enough not to cause further problems. Ford better hope it's the latter because if it's the former, there will be alot of failing engines occurring in the next few years.

Hi all, the same rattle appeared on mine for 50 miles now, car has 1500miles and built MY2019 18/11 Manual. the same symptoms , mostly in 1rst and 2nd Gear. but if i put the car in neutral and maintain the revs in the 2k 3K range , no noise, if i pull the gearshift in the direction of my body in 2nd gear, the same sound seems to appear. When hot , the sound is barely noticeable but still present. so the sound is linked with gear and engine for sure, could be a resonnance from the whole system when slightly in charge. or some side forces appear and make the piston slap.

after adding some oil from 1/4 to 3/4 threshold, the noise seems very very thin now ... no real clue if it is linked or not. but she likes having a good oil level i would say.

Sounds more like a dash rattle than the 2K RPM engine rattle. Did you also try it stopped and in neutral?
That’s what I thought as well and no I haven’t but I can in about an hr if it doesn’t do it in neutral is that a good thing?

Have a passenger start pushing down on the dashboard up on top while that noise is going on to see if it goes away or changes. If so, then it's something in the dash.
On driver and passenger or just driver side? I’m trying to think what could possibly be in the dash causing the noise
