Yep, that’s my dealer said. They’re saying it’s the BBQ tick SSM but I have the rattle, completely different from that noise. They won’t touch it, so I opened a case with Ford and now I’m waiting for the Field Service Engineer to take a trip out and diagnose my noise....Yup, the people who think that these engines are just noisy or that the 2k rattle is drive-line noise are in denial. At this point there are dozens of well documented cases of owners with only the 2k rattle as a symptom discovering substantial amount of internal wear and damage during the short/long block warranty swaps. Unfortunately for everyone else, it seems like Ford has stopped approving engine replacements based on engine noise alone. The most current owners may get is a copy of the BBQ tick SSM. Warranty or not, I wouldn't want to get stuck with a grenade like this beyond the buy back window.
Just the other day I was rolling through a restaurant parking lot and the rattle/grind was ricocheting off everything... embarrassing for a brand new Mustang GT.
