Hi, all else being equal, are smaller blowers faster to reach boost, or midrange boost levels?

Also would there be any reason to go with a smaller blower such as P1SC vs a bigger one like the D1SC? Any advantages to a smaller unit?

Final question... I kind of understand a blowers setup ratio, but does anybody make a build decision based on it? I’m wondering if procharger’s higher setup ratio makes up for its small size vs it’s larger Paxton 2200 rival.

Thanks in advance!

With a centrif, making max power requires a) have the flow capacity (reaching goal before compressor stone-wall) and b) maximizing efficiency. You have to match the engine flow characteristics to the compressor map in order to maximize efficiency. Higher efficiency translates into cooler air temps and less blower drive power absorbed. Sometimes, it might take a smaller blower to match the flow characteristics of the engine and maximize efficiency. I do not see where there could be a significant difference in response.

you want to select a head unit based on where you will be driving the car, if you don't plan on building a motor, the smaller head units will come in sooner and be more at their peak efficiency

Smaller head unit will allow you to use factory injectors. Makes swapping back to stock easier for emissions testing time.

smaller units allow you to pulley down a bit to give you a fatter powerband, big units have to be slowed down but still make good peak power.
So a pulleyed down p1x > d1x if not planning to do a fully built and sleeved engine as a daily with some strip fun? Just would hate to get that feeling later like damn wish I would have gone bigger originally... of course if switching to built motor later could always upgrade the head at that point...

I’d say yes. I don’t like the thought of a D1x with a 4.88 or bigger pulley, if a bigger is even sold.
I.agree i and have a d1sc running a 4.75 pulley.Really cant pulley down much futher without risking motor and blower does not really start making power until 5500 rpms.My car is fast but i would like to have the blower spinning faster down low.Now when i build the motor i have a shitload left on this d1.

Ideally you want to achieve your power goal with a given unit maxed out. That way the compressor is operating at Max efficiency. No sense in running a big blower with a big ol wagon wheel pulley on it, meanwhile folks with a maxed out smaller blower is right there with you. Although it is important to get what you want tho, as blowers are not cheap. Car will be fast no matter what size blower you put on.

So in theory then, pulley down the d1x and perhaps waste gate it then? Or still not maxed out enough to merit bigger blower without the built engine. Obviously fuel system will accompany either route.
