I am currently having my GT 350 detailed. It will be a week at the detailer. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with brake covers and if so which ones you recommend. And I was also wondering what car covers you are using other than the OEM car cover that might be softer on the paint.

Any advice would be appreciated. As far as colors for brake covers my GT 350 is lightening blue 2017.

Had new a 16 GT350 and 17 GT350
If not sitting outside but in a carport or garage I always used the OEM one on my 16 and 17 I had. Just used a California duster over car lightly before putting it on and it never made any fine scratches or any thing. The black stripes feel rough but they're on the outside and don't touch car. But if car is going to be outside with no cover over it you would probably want something more weather resistant. Covercraft makes the OEM one and also has some nice ones for outside custom fit for the car with different grades of protection depending on what you want.

Hmmmmmm... Brembo brakes come standard on the GT350 right? And you want to put fake covers over them? Am I missing something here? Have them powder coated properly. You can afford a herd of vehicles, not to mention a Shelby GT350 so whats a few extra buck to properly powder coat the Brembo Calipers on the car to a color of your liking?

If I am misinformed and Brembo's aren't standard on the GT350 I would still powder coat over doing those faux looking covers.....or upgrade to Wilwood or Brembos.

Good point. I did not think of that. And I did not want to replace them with only 12,000 miles on the 350. Just trying to make them look better. But maybe you are right !

BTW OP - Make my dream a reality since you are halfway there. Take that 1973 Corvette Stingray and do a 351 Cleveland swap...or if you're feeling really restomod doa Coyote Swap in it. I've always dreamed of doing that to a Corvette in retaliation for all of those T bucket Fords with SBC 350's and more lately Fox Body Mustangs with LS swaps. :like::rockon:

I agree with Johnny1. I do the same thing prior to covering my car with the OEM cover and use the California duster. I’ve had no issues.

Better off doing a 1967 corvette 427 L-88 and yanking the pos engine and dropping in a 289 hi-po ford. That’s what I would do.
I can’t stand seeing ford cars with GM engines.
This would definitely piss of a GM queer.

Or drop in a “Real” 427. A ford 427 SOHC. Problem is, that pos car isn’t worth a 427 sohc

I've made that same statement with regard to that exact model beginning with "If I were filthy rich I go to Barrett Auction and find a ...". I like the way you're thinkin!

Personally I do not like the OEM car covers for our GT350/R's and very disappointed with the quality and feel of these OEM covers.

Assuming that you want an indoor car cover I would recommend a Covercraft Form-Fit cover with them coming in 6 colors.

Price is usually around the $425 price range with the Covercraft unit and being much more superior in fit, finish and feel compared to the OEM units.

I suggest never putting a car cover on or using a duster on your vehicle. You’re far better off just letting it get dusty and giving it a full wash when you want to. Nothing should ever touch your vehicle’s paint unless it and the car are lubed.

Not sure how long you have been in the car hobby but from my standpoint I certainly disagree with your suggestion to never use a car cover whether it be inside or outside.

Having been in our hobby for over 5 decades I can give you all kinds of examples of where a car cover has helped preserve not only many of my cars during that long period of time but a car cover has also been very beneficial to many of my long term car buddies on both sides of the border.

When first started out in our hobby during the late 60's and just having purchased my first vehicle which was a '67 Cougar and not having a lot of money I decided to store my car outside and mostly in a car port but on some occasions I just had to store it outside in the elements.

Between bird poop, tree sap, roosting cats and the harmful hot sun all of those elements took a big toll on my first car both inside and out.

Back in ~1992 I was attending at a Father's Day car show as I had my '68 RS/SS L78 Camaro there and an older gentlemen said that he had an original '68 Camaro in his garage that he bought brand new and invited me to look at his car after the show which I did. His car was an all original low mileage '68 Z28 and just sat in his garage with no car cover and when I arrived it was full of dust, dirt, bird droppings and a cat was sitting on the roof of the car. After a close inspection of this outstanding vehicle the paint had all kinds of blemishes along with cat claw marks on various parts of the car. What a shame for such a cool and original car.

As I got older I was able to obtain some indoor garages with my various homes and can recall numerous occasions whereby small children or visiting dogs either bumped up against my cars, jumped on my cars or ran into my cars as they were playing around them and without question my car covers eliminated numerous scratches, marks and abrasions on many of my cars.

Can a low quality and poor fitting car cover which rubs and slides against your paint causing some possible paint issues, absolutely but the key element from my standpoint is to purchase a custom car cover that fits properly which does allow for any slipping or sliding and also keeps out as many possible outside elements away from your car.

Lastly, as much as I enjoy washing and detailing my cars there is no question that the less we wash our vehicles the better especially if a car cover has not been utilized whereby dust and dirt can be trapped into small crevices during washing which can promote early corrosion and/or rust.

Each to their own but after having gone with both no car covers to employing car covers over many year the answer is a very easy one for me.

:)

I have been using the California duster for a year. I am very particular about my car and have noticed no damage to the paint by using it. My car always has a very good coat of wax on it which probably is a contributing factor to me not having any swirl marks on my car.
As far as never using a cover, I think it is particular to each car owner’s situation. My car is stored in a single car garage which is very tight. I am required to go into the garage and walk around my car and the cover prevents any accidental scratches from me rubbing up against it. As I said earlier in this post, the factory car cover has caused no damage to my car from using it.

I bought a great cover from coverking. It was about the same price as stated here but you could choose custom colors and even add stripes to the cover.
