Picked up 3 weeks ago with ~1300 miles - 2018 300a pp1 a10 w/ Corsa sport cat bacK. The plan is to carry the gloss black theme of the upper grill and pp1 wheels through to the roof, RTR hood vents, lower grill and eventually front spoiler, side skirt moldings and rear valence. Here’s where I’m at so far....

Today’s progress. Beginning to scuff up the RTR hood vents.

2 coats adhesive promoter + 2 coats primer. Base coat coming Tuesday when weather will be better. Rain all day tomorrow.

Got them all wet sanded tonight. The vents need a little more love in a few areas but overall I’m pleased. Plan is to build a small paint booth for the base and clear. Full disclosure, this was the “booth” I used to spray the adhesion promoter and primer hahaha.

A little more wet sanding then a final coat or two of primer. Vents got 2, grill got 1 coat. Ran out of primer and didn’t want to end up with the grill all splotchy. Next up is a very gentle 500 grit wet sand and a proper spray booth. Bought the supplies today. Hoping to build it by Friday.

I'm looking forward to your progresses because I'm planning to do the same (I have ordered an ingot silver 2019 GT like you).

Can I ask you why you decided to remove the lower grille mesh?

Silver wasn't my first choice but I've grown to love it. Especially how it looks clean even when it's dirty. It also really shows off the body lines.

My original plan was to just pick up a spare lower and paint it glossy to match the upper grill. I started looking at mesh and ended up getting a deal on this kit from Matt at Custom Car Grills. So, now I'm going to cut the upper out and install mesh in both grills after I finish painting the lower. You can see pics of the mesh in the first post.

Well basically we followed the same path because silver wasn't my first choice neither.

Actually my first idea was white with the addition of blue stripes (one of the typical GT350 setups) but then I remembered about a GT Mustang seen in a movie called Need For Speed and the idea to recreate the combo ingot silver/blue 8"stripes with a larger then 1" gap between them striked my mind.

I already received the Forgiato Maglia ECL wheels that were used in that movie, a rear spoiler similar to that one (I chose the CDC outlaw) and when the car will arrive I will do the same your adoing for lower grille, side skirts and rear bumper.

I will paint the spoiler in ingot silver and I chose the black roof as an option during the ordering process.

Can't wait to see your results because I saw on youtube a guy that did the same for a 2015 model and basically the black gloss completely changed the look of the car.

Just looked up the pics of that car. The wheels are nice. The CDC outlaw spoiler looks good too. I'm hoping to be able to paint the front splitter, side skirts and rear lower valence in the next month or two. I feel like that will really complete the look. I may end up doing it myself if the vents and lower grill turn out nice. So far so good.

Yeah by rear bumper I meant rear lower avalence.

By the way I have time to wait for your final results because my car "should" arrive in June/July. I'm 100% sure that the look of your Stang will be awesome. Keep going! :)

Yeah I’m sold on the gloss moldings, really changes the look. I’ll probably let a pro handle that though. I can’t have my car down or ride around with it molding-less.

A little progress today - wet sanded with 600 grit so the parts are ready for the black basecoat. I also made the frame for the paint booth. I’m one plank short of finishing. I need the front cross bar. Then I can line it with the plastic sheeting and I’ll be ready to spray.

Very pleased with how the base coat turned out. I had one spot where a tiny hair or something got in it. I tweezed it out and sanded with 1200 grit. The spot is not noticeable unless you’re right on it. Clear is coming tomorrow hopefully, Sunday at latest.

Great work so far. I'm looking forward to the final results. Mine isn't silver, but the fact the upper is gloss and the lower isn't has been bothering me. This is a great idea!

Thanks! I can’t stand the gloss upper and matte lower, so silly of Ford. I scored an extra lower grill locally for a good price so that made it easier to do this without real time restrictions. Next weekend the bumper is coming off and I’m installing the mesh in the upper grill and installing the new lower w/ mesh. Really hoping to have time to spray the clear tonight. I’m anxious now to see it finished.

Success! Did 3 coats of clear. Then I realized the can said 4-5 but they look so good I think 3 heavy coats are fine. Couldn’t chance getting any dust in the last coat. Doesn’t look like they’ll need much in terms of polishing. Very pleased with the Automotive Touchup products and my makeshift paint booth.
