Has anyone installed the standard 2018 gauge cluster in a 2015-2017? (Includes digital speedometer)

Curious if anyone has done it, my analog speedo in my car is never accurate and would like the digital speedo option that now comes on the 2018 standard cluster.

Many have installed the 18 digital cluster in their 15-17 mustang. A less expensive option if you don't want to go the digital route ($1600-$1900) would be to calibrate the speedometer with ForScan.

I think y'all are missing the bit where OP is asking about the standard 2018+ cluster, which allows you to show your speed in the LCD in the center. Not the digital cluster.

I think the point is that, if the digital works, the regular will also work. Although forscan is probably necessary regardless, so I'd say it's better to just recalibrate it. The digital speedo, in my experience, is a bit delayed. Not significantly so but enough for me to never want to use it.

appreciate the replies, yes I am talking about the cheaper cluster. Currently I use my Lund Ngauge to know my speed, and it never jives with what I actually see on the cluster. Was curious if just getting the standard 2018 cluster could be a good choice if it is not too expensive.

My understanding is that the analog speedo is accurate unless you have oversized wheels (and then you can make it accurate by calibration). Ngauge and other digital things like that will always be off because of refresh lag and also the inherent lag in reading from the OBDII port. So, are you sure it's not the Ngauge that is not accurate?

The Ngauge is 1 mph short of perfect. My analog speedo is not accurate at all, even if you look at it straight on. the cruise control speed is on the money comparing to gps. So I just use the ngauge as gospel and it refreshes super fast. But if I didn't want to run the gauge the whole time then I am sol for an accurate speed reading. Even tried to get the analog speedo calibrated when I was under warranty and the dealer did nothing about it, they simply said its fine.

It would be cool to fork over the big money for the full digital dash but its not in the cards right now unless I buy it with the car. But my guess is I could possibly find a 2018 cluster for not that much and I would get my digital speedo in the center screen that way.

Was just seeing if anyone has tried it.

I also would like this display on my 2015. Was wondering if it is a Forscan switch to turn on in my existing cluster or new cluster is needed as the OP suggests.

Or heck could we just load the firmware from the new cluster into our old one and it simply unlocks the feature?

I tried out a 2018 Analog in my 2016 and was able to program asbuilt and everything works like stock. Nice having the Speedometer in the Middle. I prefer the LCD one but this is a lot cheaper. eBay just had one in the last week for $165 ish buy-it-now.

Did you just replace the old guage assembly with the new one and it worked? What were the steps to get you there?

nice to hear it worked out and great second option. people should be cautious when buying used clusters off ebay as some sellers advertise them as 2015-2018 and should make sure the cluster was pulled from a 2018 so it has the correct firmware.

Yes, I bought a 2018 IPC off of eBay and changed the asbuilt to get everything working properly. Cluster starts with JR3T- for 2018 and KR3T for 2019.

Can I ask what as built data you had to change and how you got the odometer to match?
