Optimum Gloss-coat

This weekend, I performed a three-stage buff/polish in preparation for a double coat of Optimum Gloss-coat. Pictures never really do a shine justice, but so far, I am very impressed with this stuff. Outstanding shine and super-easy to apply. If it really lasts for two years like they claim, I'll be a customer for life.

Not really. The little dots are too hard to photograph. I can tell you that it works as advertised. Small, oblique angle chips, like the sides pick up, are all but invisible after repair. Big ones and the ones that sort of push the paint back, creating an edge, still catch highlights, even if the color is perfect. It's definitely worth the money and a better starting point than repainting.

looks great man! DIB guy myself, really looks great. Hard color to capture on camera too. What made you go with the Optimum? Never tried it myself, any impressions you can note? Have you tried any other coatings to compare it too?

I have had great success with Cquarts UK, and Gyeon Moe's.

Also, make sure you keep up with the maintenance top coat. CarPro Reload is one of my favorites.

First time ceramic coating, so I can only compare to wax - it's as easy to apply as any good wax, and the shine is on par, too. I chose to ceramic coat based on my very strong, positive experience with Cquartz Wheel & Plastic, and I chose the Gloss-coat product based on its formulation to provide a good shine.

It's only been on a week, so my only impressions are noted already - very easy to apply and great shine. I hope to be washing it tonight (seven-day no soap requirement has expired), so I'll learn a bit about hydrophobia and report back.

So a month later and I finally washed it. As fate would have it, after my previous post, the Colorado monsoon began, and it's been raining ever since. The directions said it could get wet, but not soaped, for seven days. However, after washing I found the hood is covered in water spots. Perhaps they will wash off after another try, or perhaps they are from drying, but I kind of think they're in the coating.

As for hydrophobia, it's nothing special. In fact, the car retained more water beads than no wax at all; however, they do blow right off with the leaf blower. It's like they hold on until they are disturbed. I also found a "smear" of un-level coating that wasn't there immediately after application. It's right by the door mirror, so there's no way I wouldn't have seen it for all those days.

Overall, I'm still pretty happy. I need to give it another wash and see what changes.

Tried quick detailer: no effect. That's disappointing. Contacted Optimum for advice, but I imagine I have to polish it off and reapply.
