Hey Forum Members,
Is it possible that one of you LUCKY Kiwi's (or Ozzy's), that have their new MY18\MY19 vehicles, can send us a pic of the NZ\AUS compliance Tire Placard please?
I'm looking for maximum axel load ratings, speed ratings and recommended high speed tire pressure values.

Much appreciated, in advance.
Take care.

Not sure what you mean - from the tyre sidewall itself?

On re-reading I think not. I'll try to have a look later at my wife's. Any idea where it is on the Mustang?

Thank you all for your time and feedback.
Yes, the Placard is usually found on the door frame pillar.
All the best to you fortunate individuals that have an imminent arrival. Jelli!

Sorry for the delay - I can't get to where the car is parked (as I'm a wheelchair user) so I asked my wife to do it and the sticker she photographed only has some pressures and sizes on it.

Google suggests it might be an Australian requirement we don't copy here in NZ as I get results using "Australia" that don't have any equivalent when I use "NZ". Also I don't recall seeing it on cars here as a rule and there isn't one to be seen on my wife's daily that I can get to. I am an import to NZ though so not as familiar with legal requirements here as I am with the UK, so I may just know nothing about it.

Thanks for your considerable efforts Fen. Good feedback.
The sticker your wife snapped my still be useful if you have it.
I'm no expert either, so NZ regulations are a mystery to me as well.
If there is no Tire Placard on the vehicle, or even any guidelines, then it's true...
You are indeed in the smarter country, and not a police state.
Good luck to you Sir!

No worries. I'll upload the sticker later as I need to resize it before I can attach it and I’ve not figured that out on iPad as yet, but it only shows the tyre specification and the pressure - nothing even about loading and different speeds having different pressures.

In terms of smarter I’m not so sure. I’ve been a wheelchair user for a little over 18 months (after a mountain bike crash) and one of the biggest frustrations is that I can no longer drive numerous and fun vehicles. Here in NZ (and I think in Australia also to be fair) I have to have hand controls certified in the vehicle before I’m allowed to use them.

In 2 weeks I’m heading to the UK to visit family and I’m picking up a hire car at Heathrow. It is an ordinary car and will come with some portable, temporary hand controls that can be fitted in minutes and allow me to drive any automatic car. That's good enough to drive around the UK for 3 weeks, but apparently not safe enough to use in NZ - so we're no more sensible over here.

Yours sounds similar to mine.....not too many manuals about....Are you concerned about the reported problems with the transmission shift forks ?

Hey Fen,
I'm saddened to hear of your misadventure, but also uplifted to know you can still enjoy a passionate run in a vehicle fit for purpose.
Also encouraged that there are temporary hand control options available that are readily fitted and adaptable.
I could not begin to fathom the frustration of NOT having that option.
Have a great time on your visit with the folks.
All the best.
Al.

Thanks Al - it's not something I'd wish on anyone, but it is what it is and there's nothing to do but get on with it.

Anyway, I completely forgot to upload the sticker, so here it is now. I've blurred out the chassis number, otherwise it's complete. I don't think it's got what you're looking for on it, but it's there anyway. I expect some of the Australian cars will be delivered perhaps even later today to get a better picture from.

Hey Fen,
Thanks to you and your wife for the photo.
Yep, the sticker you have posted is what I was after.
The Tire Placard displays the specification of the original rubber fitted to the vehicle, as well as recommended inflation pressures.
It also has the load index and speed rating of the original tires.
I was hoping to see a recommended, sustained high speed (>160km\h) pressure as well.

My issue is the load index.
I want to change out the rubber, however, the load index of my chosen replacement hoops is BELOW the OEM on the placard. This was what I was afraid of.
I was hoping for a spread\range of factory values, or a Minimum rating (Do not go below this value).
I have seen photos on the Forum, of GT's in the USA, with All-Season tires with an Load Index\Speed Rating of 96 W (all around).
You will notice that on your Placard, that the Front is 100Y, the rear is 105Y.
My replacements are 98Y front, 103Y rear. So I am UNDER the OEM values.

I'm lead to believe, in Australia, that Tire retailers\Fitters, are obliged, under regulation (Law), to NOT fit tires that are below the OEM on the Tire Placard (Officially).
I also believe, that if you have an accident, Insurance Company's can refuse a Claim, if you do not Match or Exceed to OEM Placard (it would be an illegal modification).

I'm not about to risk the AUS$80k to replace the car!

I'm trying to get FORD Australia to certify that the car is compliant with my chosen rubber (given the identical US spec, is driving around with 96W on-board), So I am covered when out on the road (with the muppets, dash-cam and all).

Here's hoping that the Australian Spec has a little more information.
As you mentioned, we should know some time today (Lucky buggers).

Keep up you positive attitude Sir.
Al.

OK, I’m pleased it's what you wanted. Sorry it took so long to get it to you, and that it confirms what you didn’t want it to.

I guess it makes sense given what you say that it has the chassis number on the sticker not once, but twice in lettering and a third time in barcode.

I’m unsure if the placard is a legal requirement here in NZ or not. I must admit my usage of such information has purely been to determine recommended tyre pressure and when I’ve done that (mostly on European cars) I’m not convinced there are full tyre specs on there. I'll check the Passat on the driveway later if I remember, but my wife's shopping car Alfa Romeo didn’t seem to have it anywhere.

In the interests of positive attitude, at the time of my accident I was driving a VF SSV Ute with Walkinshaw W307 kit and looking for a 1959 Chevy El Camino to replace it with, and literally 4 days before I ordered a 30th Anniversary Maloo in case the Elky took a while to find (figuring they'd hold value pretty well). Post accident I cancelled the Maloo order and sold the (manual) SSV and as I am no longer a mountain biker shelved the need for a ute altogether. I’ve started looking again for a ā€˜59 Chevy of any model quite seriously over the last few weeks however and I’m quite excited as this morning I have found a ā€˜59 Elky running a 468 big block with suspension and brakes to match, fully certed and already NZ registered at well within my budget. It’s not a done deal yet, but perhaps my wife won’t have the most horsepower in the household for much longer :D

You definitely have a performance eye with your car choice Fen.
I like the old Chev's too.
The Elky is a classic, that front end is epic. Big Block horses will see you back at the head of the household no doubt.
My brother had 3 old '63 Bel Air's, that he cannibalised, just to get one running!
He has a HZ Stato now, that looks tough.

Still yet to see a Aus spec tire placard, but from what I can gather, Its only going to confirm what I don't want to know.

Got to figure out a way to get around this.
Take care.

Al.

Just got this back from the dealership.
I was sent photos of the MY18 & MY17 Tire Placards.
Too large to post (I will have to shrink them).

The tire spec has remained identical, except for the Load Index, which has ballooned to 100Y front, up from 96Y, and 105Y rear, up from 101Y.

This is a significant step up the load carrying capacity of the tires.

It begs the question, Just how much do the new MY18 Mustangs weigh?
I thought they were supposed to be Lighter?
This is an increase in front axle spec of +90kg and +100kg on the rear axle.
If these new MY18 vehicles are lighter, how come the need for greater load carrying capability?

As predicted, I cannot fit my chosen rubber, as it is below the Tire Placard.
Although they would be fine on a MY17 (chosen hoops are 98Y front, 103Y rear.
I have had it confirmed that Police can defect (yellow sticker) a vehicle not complying to the tire placard, and this also voids insurance claims in an accident.

As stated before, the yanks are getting around on 96W All-Season units.

There should be a way that, if the tire is within the manufactures 'window' of production OEM, then it is suitable to fit to the car. Or have it independently verified\certified by an automotive engineer. As I said, I'm not risking $80K.

I'll keep you posted.

Also got an ETA from the dealer - 27 October 2018
Will be a MY19, with rev matching on the manual gearbox.

Al.
