Oil Usage Question. Did my first oil change at dealership with 1100 miles on the odo. Everything looked good, Blackstone analysis was very good. Picked up the car new with 37 miles on it and needed to add a quart before first oil change even though I did a slow, stepwise break-in for the first several hundred miles. Now with 2,500 miles on the clock looks like I am getting close to having to add a quart. During this last 1400 miles, probably did about 30 dyno pulls to redline during the course of before and after power assessments plus an intensive tuning session over many hours with Steve Mason, a fantastic tuner located in Jacksonville Fl. Aside from those pulls, probably did another 15-20 shifts at redline. So, given all of this over 1400 miles, does this oil usage appear to be ok for this car?

Octane question. Cannot really run E85 on a week-end only toy in Northern Fl - too humid even here for my comfort level. So after a killer tune and the JLT intake, I was making just about 480 rear wheel h/p and 400 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels. So, I have been running some VP 103 octane street legal fuel and there is definitely a butt=o=meter further performance increase. Question is, are there any formulas/estimates for what percentage of power increase that can be expected? I am guessing around 2-3%??

Thanks....

No scientific data here, but I ran (and noticed quite a difference) with Sunoco 260GT (100 octane) at Daytona last December. The computer controlled ignition in these cars will advance the timing based upon data provided by the knock sensors up to a point. The result is an increase in horsepower up to the limit of ignition advance. IIRC, folks who run ran 100 octane race gas on a dyno got up to a 3% (or so) increase in HP. That would be about right with my (as you put it) "butt-o-meter"

Your oil consumption seems similar to mine. My first oil change was at 900 miles (one quart low then - I also did a progressive break-in). I had to add one quart at around 2600 miles. Now around 3500 miles I am about to do my second oil change and it is 3/4 quart low. I am not worried at all with this rate of consumption. Car runs awesome, engine is as smooth as they come.

Thanks! Good to know with the passage of some years, the 'ol butt=o=meter is still in working order.. So, with the rocket juice, figuring I am running about 565 h/p and 468 torque at the crank - car definitely is more up on its toes. With power goals met, time to put this child on a diet - hopefully the equivalent reduction of about 200 lbs via unspring and sprung changes.

Perhaps we could meet-up at some time - would love to see your "R" collection...

Power gain should be the same as you would have running E85, just better fuel economy. Power gains would be from increased timing advance is all. Both E85 and the 103 would allow the max timing advance available in the ECU. All depends on your tuner calibrating a tune for that.

2017 GT350 now gone to a great home.
I just changed my oil at 1100 miles also with normal break in and one track day at Road America. I checked levels consistently looking to add, but there was no real noticeable consumption. I’ll keep checking it at every fuel stop.

Where’s Bob (Jerry)?

Actually, I think I live fairly close, in Gainesville, Fl. I think you are near Daytona? Perhaps, sometime this summer I will bring my car down to your dealership to get an oil change and I can see your R collection.

I really thought hard about an R, but given the discomfort I had with the Recaros, I would have had to go the Jay Leno route and have the seats substituted plus pay the ADM, and that was a bit too much. Those football and military injuries add up over time!

Here in Vegas, we only have 91 octane on most gas stations. There are several Rebel gas stations with 100 octane and I’ve been tempted to mix octanes to produce 93 octane for the full 526 bald eagles! How much do you think I’m pushing with 91 octane?
