I took the car into the dealership, but they haven't yet had time to actually take it apart to fix/inspect it. Based on the information I gave them and their research, the service manager believes it to be a problem with either the clutch's pressure plate or throw out bearing.

I appreciate the feedback. At least your dealer is honest enough to suspect there is an issue. My dealer didn't do anything but drive it. I'm going to take my car in again next week as well to a different dealer. I will keep everyone updated here as well.

I just bought a new 2018 GT and its my first car to ever be in a v8 and over 200 hp. I've noticed something 'odd' and was wondering if it is something I need to get checked or not. I've had my car for almost a week and every time I up-shift with too much power on the throttle (say 1,000 rpm over what it should be) I notice a grinding sound and feel in the clutch pedal when I release it. It does not do this when shifting it correctly, only when I'm a bit too heavy on the gas pedal. Is this normal? I've never experienced this with past manual transmission cars, but they haven't been this powerful.

Edit: I made a recording of the sound showing the revs. It is louder outside the car than what you hear in the video. This was done by pushing the clutch in, reving to 4,000+ RPM, and releasing the clutch. I am not dumping the clutch for what its worth.
Nope

I hope my car doesn't have this problem. Should I get it high in the RPM band to test see if I hear it on the test drive?

I still haven't done so. I was tired from fighting with the dealer that I decided to listen to them and wait till I hit 1000 miles for the syncros to "break in"

Well guess what, at 1K miles noise is still there and as loud as ever. Not sure how those shady dealership people sleep at night.

Well, add me to the list. Easily repeatable with a normal deliberate shift in the upper RPM range.

BUMP.

Maybe the OP could change the title to something more specific to the problem. I'm about to bring mine in to the dealer. Very irritating.

Doubt the OP is still active.

not normal. I have 18 manual. probably I already shifted it in every possible way. never heard anything like this.
even when I downshift with out rev matching and dumping the clutch, nothing. it engages right away and it makes the tires chirp. same for the power shifting.

yours sounds like the clutch is not engaging right away and it slips till engages fully.

I saw somewhere a guy has clutch misalignment issue with the 18gt. I don't know if they related but check it...

That is grinding gears.
Do not let that happen.
Ever.
Your clutch is dragging and not fully disengaging.
Could be simply out of adjustment.
Low clutch fluid (if hydraulic).
Piece of clutch material or debris dragging between clutch surfaces when it should be disengaged.
Trans fluid low and starved.
Bad syncro if it occurs only in one gear on up or down shift.
Get your clutch engagement moved to earlier in travel to maximize amount of clutch disengagement.

I am in the club as well. I started pushing the car much harder this past week (a little over 300 miles on the clock) and noticed the exact same noise (and vibration through the clutch pedal) as the noise in the OP’s video. Happens every time I shift above 5k. Below that everything sounds and feels normal. Going to take it in to the dealer this week for diagnosis. Hopefully it’s not a big issue since it appears that flywheels and clutches are nowhere to be found for these cars.

Maybe it’s not as severe on your end. Something is definitely off here. Regardless of how I shift above 4K the grind is there. Giving slight throttle as you disengage shouldn’t cause noise like this. That actually makes the shifts smoother rather than dropping the clutch. I’ve always shifted like that including on my 2015 GT and never had any issues.

Yea it's definitely weird. I thought our cars had no lift shift? That's how I drove my Mach 1 for over 14 years and never had a transmission or clutch issue. I basically had to re learn how to drive stick with this car. Does your car do the rattle noise at around 2000-2500 RPM in gears 1-3 under light acceleration? Look in the problems and issues section. Mine does but I'm not sure it's an engine issue.
Yeah, I have that rattle noise as well, but it doesn’t bother me. It sounds like it’s coming from the clutch as well. Maybe it’s even related to the high rpm grind. I’ll take the car in Tuesday or Wednesday and go from there. Would have been nice if the OP of the thread had provided an update.

I never had this problem with mine. Shifted up/down without any issues whatsoever. Not at 50 miles or 6400 miles (where I'm at now).

Syncro's breaking in? Seriously? Either a clutch is center aligned correctly or it isn't. The only way to tell what's going on is to inspect the clutch surface for even engagement, check the wear on the center bearing. Hopefully there's no debris on the drain plug.
