Thanks that puts it in perspective for me. I know the ecoboost is a bit noisier from first hand experience. My last car was a SHO 3.5 ecoboost. If I decide to go with the decal I'll ask. I did not see it on the site. The pic has given me a bit of an idea and I have to let it fester for a few days. I wonder how it would look to trim the insulation blanket some to provide a little clearance around the hood vents to help with the water issue, and while I'm at it I could also remove an oval in the middle to expose the pony. That way I could hide the "washer fluid lines"?, and keep the insulation's plastic clips filling in the holes. Another idea I had was to paint the heads of the clips red to match my hood to fill in the holes if I decide to remove the insulation entirely.

I tried the same cutting the oval. Unfortunately, the insulation is not an even thickness and the cuts tend to look jagged from side angles.

the clips are perfectly spaced for this to work with no sagging. In this pic, i treated the cut edges to some bed liner. I eventually just removed the whole thing.

Yep that's what I had in mind. I had a inkling that the varying thickness might be an issue so I was thinking of running a seam (I'm a retired upholstery guy) at the edge of the cut to compress the cut edge and make it more uniform....but I'm not sure at all that I can fit the bulk of the black pad in the space available under the arm of my machine. Even if I could I'm not sure it would look that much better. Right now I'm thinking you made the best choice. Thanks for the picture.

I’ve only had one car that didn’t come with insulation and the paint on top of the hood gets cooked pretty good. Makes it all bubbly looking if it gets hot enough. Course that’s a Jeep Wrangler with a straight 6 engine, can’t imagine the Ford engines would get that hot.

I have some of that laying around. Let me look to see how much I have and send a pic to see if its what you want. If so its yours for cost of getting it to you.

Thanks for the kind offer Rum Punch Ruby. I'm a retired auto trim guy and it turns out I've got some kicking around also. I just never thought of it as the edge finishing solution for this application. It really might work. Worth a shot at least. Maybe Chef JPD will want to give it a try
