Hi Gang,
I am a 2016 GT premium coupe owner who has been contemplating all winter whether to switch to a convertible. My wife and I rented one for my birthday and we both loved it. I enjoyed the driving experience but not the looks (with top up). The higher price tag pushed me toward the coupe. After owning the coupe for a year I am realizing that the driving experience is more important than perceived looks- unless of course you are buying it to be a show car which I am not. I found myself feeling a bit closed in even though the car is fairly roomy.... I even looked into an after market sun roof but that is not an option on the coupe..I want something fun that my wife will enjoy as well during nice days in the spring, summer and fall.
I am looking at purchasing a used 2016 or 17. I have a few questions regarding what to look for:
1. Any common issues I should be looking for? I heard there were a lot of vert users complaining about vibration at high speeds- some say it is drive shaft, other had issues with tires being out of balanced
2. I have a bunch of mods on my 2016- one I would really like to take with me is my Corsa Sport Catback exhaust. Anyone know if it will fit on a vert? I did not keep my original exhaust- will the factory vert exhaust install unto a coupe if I had the dealer switch them out? The lowering springs and other suspension mods I will most likely just do again as I don't think it would be worth it to swap those- too much labor.
3. How is the performance pack model vs the regular premium vert?

Thanks

I know what you are saying Lorne! My wife and I rented a convertible for some fun in Maui.

Your Corsa Sport is not designed for the convertible, although you may be able to make it fit, not sure.

This is CJPP's catbacks for the vert and coupe:
https://www.cjponyparts.com/corsa-cat-back-exhaust-system-3-sport-stainless-steel-with-4-1-2-polished-tips-fastback-gt-2015-2017/p/CBC21/
https://www.cjponyparts.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=corsa+sport+for+convertible

The factory vert OEM catbacks would give you the same problem trying to install them on a coupe or vice versa.

Like new condition GT OEM catbacks are easy to find and pretty cheap. I gave $75.00 for a like new set and I've seen some folks give them away. You may be able to come out with more money in your pocket by putting used OEM on your car and selling the Corsa.
Thanks Bill, I appreciate it. I have thought about selling the exhaust myself. I did call corsa this morning and they do offer a system for the vert....it is completely different than the coupe though so I would not be able to do a swap from my coupe.

Verts are a different driving experience rather than going or looking the fastest.

Drive it for the open air experience!

I think the vert looks much better than the coupe...I would not own a mustang if not for the vert. The grey with black top looks fabulous... IMO.

The tires are an issue... mine are cupped. Very odd, I've been around for a long time and this is the first time I've had tire issues with a new car. Oil change and tire rotated. I'm sure something is going on there but the dealer took a look and said everything looks fine. Sure something amazing will show up after the warranty is out.

There are no safety features.... if you roll, you are done. :headbonk:

Living with Mustang vert, even in weather that reaches below 10 degrees, is no big deal. No drafts, leaks, or other issues. I'm going on three years and the top is solid.

The trunk is huge... the trunk is so huge... it is amazing (considering all other verts in its class/money range).

Great car for a week away for two people and their bags.

With that said, I'd have to admit, I'm about the only person who loves the car with the top down when moving. Most of my lady friends don't... although, they want the top down when arriving to wherever we are going. It does get hot and I get sun burned often... I have sunscreen but... cancer. Stop while I'm ahead????

It is either too cold or too hot to have the top down most of the time. Driving at night with the top down often feels stupid, but I do it a lot.

Not sure I feel 100% safe with the top down in states I can't carry with my permit.

I often worry about parking under trees (last summer while in a park in SC, I was worried about pine cones... trees were fairly tall).

I'm considering turning mine in while I can still get something for it and picking up a nice coupe... not sure yet though. Nothing has grabbed my attention yet. Maybe even split the difference and get a hard top convertible that looks like a coupe. Only problem there is I can get a much better coupe for the same money as a vert of the same car.

Sorry if my thoughts are all over the place.... love the car but in a weird place with it.

To end on a high note: The trunk is huge.... ha ha...

My vert is exactly one year old today. It’s been thru the brushless car wash about twice a month and the top looks new.
I love the way the roof is completely lined and insulated. You see NONE of the mechanism and it holds heat and AC same as any sedan I’ve ever had.
I have the Love The Drive wind deflector and can drive top-down in 45 degree weather warm, comfy and draft-free.
What’s great as well is how rain sounds on the canvas roof!
Another great feature is the twin electric motors that quickly raise and lower the roof with absolute silence.
There’s nothing like lowering the roof at a stoplight and changing the driving experience -especially hearing those dual Borla Sports make beautiful noise!

One last note -with the Performance Package the ride is a bit busy but not at all harsh and I’ve had none of the vibration issues reported by others -thankfully!

I just did this transition. I had a 2017 GT PP and traded in on a 16 vert with less miles and got a really good deal. I had a ton of mods on my coupe. Procharger, opg/cg, full exhaust, a couple suspension upgrades, one peice driveshaft, etc... I was able to take a lot of the parts off and return to stock. Most importantly the procharger lol. Luckily the new vert had a GT350 rear valence (which my coupe had) and a FRPP by Borla Sport catback. I had the corsa extreme on my coupe with quad tips going to the valence and catted longtubes. I knew this exhaust wouldn’t fit. I was completely okay trading it in with the corsa because I knew the new vert had the borla system with the valence already so I seriously lucked out. This deal was specially for me lol. You can fit your corsa sport but you will have to take off the bracing which a lot of people do not recommend doing even if you plan on other suspension mods. It’s needed for structural integrity. However, corsa now has covertible catbacks so you can sell yours and buy a new one for your vert. I do miss my PP brakes but that’s about it. I also made the switch to auto because I literally hate the MT-82, and I wanted my wife to be able to drive. I also want to go to the track and I hear the 6R80 is pretty robust. I am very happy with this decision. The auto is fantastic, so much better than the MT-82. It’s great to have 3.15 gears and not the obnoxious 3.73. Man that thing was annoying. When I throw the procharger on the vert it’s going to be insane. I can only imagine with the top down in the summer. I tried to kid myself and tried to keep the coupe but I really love convertibles and I don’t care what anyone else thinks. There are some vibrations/rattles that I am diagnosing but nothing too bad honestly. I need to install a few things before the summer but overall I’m extremely happy. Do what makes you happy that’s my advice.

Yeah I'm sure you'll be much safe with a gun in your car.
No, much safer with it on your person... in the car does nothing for you.

A gun is nothing more than a tool in a layered defense strategy. Definitely not your main choice (main choice is to get out of the situation).

I've been carrying for maybe 20 years (off and on) and never had an issue.

You are in CA? I get your comment.

thanks for your thoughts and reply... sounds like you still like your convertible, but there are always pro and cons to every vehicle...

Thanks for the reply! In regards to the Corsa Exhaust, yes I would have to either pull my current corsa sport and resell it myself or trade it in as is.. I did not keep my original coupe factory exhaust but I think I can find one online here somewhere..My issue is that I am not mechanically inclined nor do I have the lift, jacks, tools, etc to remove my mods. I had them all done at a performance shop and the labor was a killer. I know that I can remove some of the basic cosmetic and functional mods myself like the steeda clutch spring, clutch pedal extension, trunk mat, etc...
I would still stick with a manual though as I just like it as part of the experience... I have figured out how to smooth out the MT82 with an aftermarket shifter and BGSychroshiftII replacement trans fluid. I put the barton hybrid 3 in my current coupe and I think that was overkill.. way more complicated to install and very stiff. I would most likely install just the Ford Peformance short throw shifter which keeps the base shifter but upgrades a few components to get rid of the slop and keeps the throws short. If nothing else this has been a HUGE learning experience for someone who did not come from the performance car arena. I feel the same way you do.. I was trying to kid myself that I liked the coupe, but really like the roominess of the convertible even with the top up it just felt less constrictive. I also was under the impression that I would not be able to drive the convertible on a track or in a spirited manner. I am finding that with the right suspension mods (mainly lowering springs) to get rid of more floaty body roll and maybe the Ford Power Pack 2 the car will be plenty zippy for me. I also learned a lot about exhausts.. I found I was very susceptible to drone and the Borla system I had droned bad at 2k when cruising on hwy... I went to the corsa sport which has been fantastic, but it is so quiet in the cabin I find myself keeping the windows open all of the time just to hear it at full audio potential. that is why i even contemplated putting a sun roof in my coupe just to give it more of an open feel and hear the exhaust more... but ford decided to put those stupid design lines in the hood which run right where the sunroof would go making it very difficult to install without creasing or damaging the metal... .I know with the top down it will be a much better experience in regards to the exhaust....sorry for the rant but I have been over and over all the scenarios in my mind...

Yeah I'm sure you'll be much safe with a gun in your car.
Absolutely!

Those with experience know. Those without truly have no clue.

I say this as someone that used to have no clue. I did not grow up in a household with guns. Most of my life was spent being afraid of them and not even wanting to be near them.

Take a gun safety class. Take a CWP class (you don't HAVE to actually buy a gun). It will open your mind and put you at ease with regards to owning firearms.

Yeah I'm sure you'll be much safe with a gun in your car.
That's funny. 5 years ago - almost to the day - my legally carried, concealed weapon stopped a meth head with a knife and an attitude from car jacking me with my teenage son in the car. And before you ask, it was at a gas station in a neighborhood where the houses cost 3x as much as mine - not an urban area.

You do you, I'll do me.
