18" or 19" Squared Setup question - searched but didn't find an answer

Contemplating going to 19" wheel on my '17 V6. I'm currently running 18" GT wheels on 235/50/18 tires.

Keep in mind I am upgrading to the GT 4 piston brakes as well.

Stock height and will likely never be lowered unless it's the minimum drop springs.

The wheel I really want (the only reason I'm considering changing honestly) comes in the following:

18x9.5 20 offset
18x9.5 40 offset

275/40/18 tires

or if I decide to go 19"

19x9.5 20 offset
19x9.5 40 offset

275/40/19 tires


For the 19" setup, the 20 offset looks to be pretty much identical to my current setup as far as inside clearance, but will poke @ 1.5" further out.

Any unforeseen issues I'm not seeing?

First of all, what you've laid out there is only partially a square setup. A true square setup is same wheels all around too (so you can rotate), which is easy to do. +20 is going to poke. +30 on a 9.5 is perfect up front, being just the tiniest smidge under flush. +35 in back is the same. I'd recommend 19" because it's really difficult to find tires that are wide and tall enough on 18". The 275/40R18 will make your wheel gap look enormous without lowering, FYI, as they are 1" smaller diameter than 275/40R19 and 0.6" smaller than your current tires. Half that difference will be seen in the tire to well gap.

I would go with 19x9.5 all around with a +35 offset, a 5 mm spacer up front and 275/40R19 tires. You'll enjoy it very much.

I have 19x10.5 ET35 wheels that fit square front and back.

Talk to Paul at PKAutoDesigns and buy the wheels from him, he'll give you a good deal.

Yes they'd fit perfectly fine and would look good. Stock GT PP rear wheels are 19x9.5 and +52.5 and only require a 5 mm spacer to fit over the 6 piston brembos (so the equivalent of +47.5).

They are the only wheel that's really caught my eye and I've been looking for quite a while.

Just went to go ahead and order the wheels - and the guy called me back and said his rep at TSW is saying that the Tremblant in 19x9.5 won't clear the front brake caliper on the GT (I'm adding GT 4 piston calipers). I'm guessing because of the lip of wheel. The lips is 2.25" on the 19x9.5.

If I can't go with 19x9.5 all the way around, I guess I'm still looking. I asked the guy to get me a phone number so I can talk to his rep at TSW so I can figure out if they are talking about the Performance Pack cars...

If I can't run this setup, I'll likely keep what I have and keep looking.

Okay so I actually found another wheel I like that isn't ridiculously expensive.

The MRR GT7 - in Matte Black. I'd need to find a way to make those rivets black as well....

Sent a few PM's - here's hoping 19x9.5 with 40 offset will clear GT 4 piston brakes with a 275/40/19 all the way around

That's a nice looking wheel. Normally I hate fake rivets, but those are pretty subtle, especially if you paint them black.

See my sig line. I am also running 19x9.5 ET35mm, square, with 275/40-19 AS tires. No drop, stance is perfect for me, and I get complimented on the wheels and stance periodically.

40 mm might clear everything, but if it doesn't, you could run 5mm spacer in front, or four 5mm spacers all around. CJ Pony has really nice, fairly priced, spacers specifically for our Mustangs.

As for your originally choice, the problem was probably that the deep lip design lead to the spokes hitting the outside face of the calipers. There are so many more specs to a wheel than we first realize.

Yeah - not a rivet fan myself actually, but if painted to blend in with the wheel, these would be subtle enough.

I'm waiting on a response. Would rather not run spacers. If I have to run spacers, I may end up with my original choice, once their rep responds to my phone call.

Bear in mind that I am only suggesting thin slip-on spacers. Not the bolt on, with new studs type of spacers. Easy-peasy, no biggie, you buy now...
