I'm getting new wheels and still undecided on 19s or 20s. Of course budget will come into it so wanting to know how much i'd be able to get for my current wheels, both with (if i go 20s) or without tyres.

How much is a fair price for a set of silver Custom pack alloys? 1 with small curbing that could do with a refurb. wrapped in MPSS 275/40/19 on the back, 255/40/19 on the front, treads are RF 7mm, LF 6.5mm, LR 5.7mm, RR 5.6mm (as of last month service) Fronts are literally just over a month old :headbonk:.

Not looking to take the piss, would want a quick(ish) sale. What do they tend to go for?

I actually think you'll struggle to sell a set of stock wheels at any price:)

My advice would be, keep the stock wheels, buy a new set of whatever you want, and if you sell up in the future, put the stock wheels back on and sell the aftermarket ones...

In the meantime, you can run the stock wheels in the winter..:)

man maths,

keep old wheels fit winter tyres on them get new wheels with summer tyres on them therefore saving money each year not having to have summer tyres taken off each year and winters refitted x2

For reference, I bought a 2nd set of Nickel OEM wheels fitted with the standard Pzero ditch-finders for £650. I thought that was a fair price tbh. Think you could push £900 with the better rubber.

As regards 19s Vs 20s. There's very little to gain (and possibly as much to lose) in handling. It can only be an aesthetics thing to choose 20s over 19s. Replacement tyres will likely cost more and there might be some marginal loses in ride quality as well as a potential small increase in rotational weight at each corner.

Just a couple of objective points.

Personally I also find the larger wheel/low profile tire combo less visually appealing, but that is purely a matter of preference.

Good point.....also worth noting that Mac, replaced his 20" wheels with 19"'s and commented that the ride comfort and general handling was much improved on the 19's

19s > 20s ;)!

Regarding reselling stockers, I sold my stock EB alloys for £350 inc postage (which was £37 door to door courier with paisleys) they had NO RUBBER on them.

Stock alloys are generally quite hard to shift and the actual alloys aren't going to pick you up much cash. You'd probably be able to shift £500-800 just for the rubber alone, off the wheels.

If it was up to me, doing man maths I'd do the following:
1) Buy new 19s
2) remove rubber from stock tyres (No need to buy new)
3) put rubber onto new 19s
4) sell alloys as a "spare", or as a set. it did take me MONTHS to shift my stock wheels, and they're EBM ones!

So in short, if you have time and space on your side to store everything you 'could' get around 800-1k for the current set, however best maths would be to bin off the idea of 20's (as that'll set you back cost of alloy + cost of new rubber + "ride quality" cost), and sit on 19s, and try and shift the alloys alone.

lots of food for thought here. it is true I am quite happy with the handling of the car as it is on 19s so 20s would purely be for the 'bling'. i think it's just cos pretty much all the american ones in the wheels & tyres sections are on 20s and look the nuts, so it feels like putting 19s on is just not doing it properly :)

i'd hate to regret anything, but reading your comments above it seems like i may regret 20s more than 19s? it's a fair amount of cash so want to get it right.

You will if you're enjoying the ride style etc, you'll also save more with 19s... If you want to pitch it to your S/O, start with 20s, then when they say no or give resistance mention 19s and how much cheaper it'd be ;)!

haha, already pitched and she's getting them for me for christmas :headbang:

logic is flawed though, you know full well money saved will go towards painted calipers and a re-trimmed steering wheel :headbang:

hehehe, but she doesn't (yet!).

Have you lowered the car? if not that really pulls away from the need for 20s, especially if you space the wheels out, or have them wide enough and the right offset that you don't need spacers (like mine are)

One other thing that may come up...:)

When I asked my insurance Co about wheels (Direct Line) there was no extra charge for changing wheels from 19" to 19":)

But there was if I changed from 19" to 20"

Other insurance companies may have different policies, but worth checking..
